Why oh why has it taken so long to get him in the side? Formation. Mick wanted to get 3 in midfield initially to make us hard to beat. What formation did we play in the end today? 4-2-3-1?

Showed his absolute class on the first goal for vokesy, one split second look over his shoulder to asses the picture before he got to the ball and then a cross which was straight into the path of vokes. He has to be on the pitch when fit.

He has to be on the pitch when fit. I thought he was our best player v QPR, thought he did reasonably well v wigan as his first start in ages and he was excellent yesterday. They just couldn't pick him up at all. If he wants to play hes clearly a quality footballer. Lets hope we see much more of him in 2nd half of season

I was positively surprised by his workrate and pace yesterday! I actually had the impression he was slow, but he cetainly isn't!

Surely we have to stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation we finished with. It gets the best out of the players we've got including Powell.

Stop Powell and you stop Stoke is a very worrying premise.

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-changes-fa-cup-brentford-3702433He might be tempted to go with Nick Powell again after he returned from the wilderness to impress at Huddersfield on New Year’s Day.
Observing his comeback performance, O’Neill noted: “It’s the first time we’ve really played with a (number) 10 with Nick in that position and I thought he did very well - and there’s more in Nick still.
“He demonstrated a lot of his quality and he can be a real asset for us.
“I don’t think we are the most physical team in the middle of the pitch, but what we do have when we do win the ball is real quality to go and play and some of the football we played off that (v Huddersfield) was great.”

Did he get unceremoniously dropped then? Or could it be another injury? Seems odd that he came back in from the cold to put in a performance like that. I really hope we weren't and aren't considering letting him go.

Worked his bollocks off at Brentford. And if we were going to create anything it was likely to have come through him. Keep him fit and he’s a great player to have

The thing that's surprised me most about Powell is his work rate and willingness to put a foot in.

It's just a pity he hates Stoke and playing football.
Just think how good he'd be...

Very talented, creative and works hard. Just have to keep him fit and play a formation that suits him

I like him.

Build the team around him* in the no. 10/attacking-mid role I'd say. Loving watching him - nice to have someone who combines flair with hard work.
(*with a quality backup in case he has an off-day/get injured...)

To coin a well worn phrase, “he’s like a new signing for us”
And with a run of games and his fitness up to speed I actually believe that he could be the difference in the remaining 20 games.....

The thing that's surprised me most about Powell is his work rate and willingness to put a foot in. Yeah, I've been trying to convince people on here he isn't lightweight or lazy. I think people will see for themselves once he gets in his stride. He's got everything: finishing, passing, heading, tackling, workrate, attitude. Check out his goal at Wembley when he played for Crewe

The thing that's surprised me most about Powell is his work rate and willingness to put a foot in. I’m the same, he’s a right horrible bastard too. Always in an opposition face winding them up which is something we haven’t done since Cameron was playing.

He's a class player who needs to stay fit and he'll score at least 10 a season. He's good for half a dozen until the end I reckon with a few assists too.

It's great to see so many posters changing their minds about Powell. Lots of comments were made about him being lazy not wanting to be here and even feigning injury so as not to play....all absolutely bizarre and only on a message board The reality is that he has always been a very talented footballer and its not hard to see why so many people who know more than us rate him. I think his 'sick note' label is unfair and actually inaccurate. At Wigan he managed 39 and 32 games over the last two seasons before he joined us. He can get injured but clearly he takes a bit of punishment during games but the secret must be for the physios and medics to manage him correctly like they clearly did at Wigan.

Missing just shy of a third of the season? I disagree. he may not have been injured for all 14 of course, just not picked on occasion when we we signed him how many games he'd played over the previous two season I would have guessed at about 25 not 71
