I reckon he’s on 40k tbh. I agree but I think he needs to play more. Nowhere near £40k a week. He’s on around £25-27k a week which is what the majority of the ex-Premier League players had their wages reduced to after getting relegated and not promoted the following season.....

When he's played I have to be honest I've not been overly impressed, yes, he is playing in a poor team, yet for me he always seems to slow play down and hang onto the ball for too long, much like Ince does. would not lose much sleep if he left in the window.

My info was that Wigan offered him 20k to stay which was top of their budget. And that he is on around 28k per week at Stoke.

Definitely around that, puts him on the same as the likes of Diouf, Imbula, Ndiaye, Wimmer, Martins Indi who were on up to £70k a week but then had it reduced to £40k and then again to around £25-27k in the seasons that followed.....

What really sums up Stoke as a club he is possibly on similar money to what Bojan was earning. Should we go with Bojan or should we go with Powell? It's really so very sad how low the club have set their sights these last three seasons.

Surely there's some place for him in a balanced midfield, somewhere? I'd even try him up front, since he caused mayhem there for Wigan against us.

He did give him a go in a midfield 3 against Wigan at home, didn't he? He wasn't a complete disaster, but wasn't great. Since then, just the odd cameo - culminating in him not making the 18 for the last 2. Even with no wide players and no quality up front, it doesn't appear to have been on the agenda to change formation or try him wide or up top. It's hard to really see a future for him

Could we arrange a straight swap with Leeds for that left back Douglas or something?

I suppose it's tough when you're a creative player with an injury record that limits your time on the pitch, because you really need a run of games to find your groove. Even so, I can't recall him having any impact on a game for us yet.

MON doesn’t seem like a false 9 man so that’s out. Could try him in midfield but let’s face it, Allen’s not getting dropped and Clucas probably brings more to the table from that deeper role.

Considering he’s our most natural and most creative footballer why don’t we just play 4-2-3-1?
Cousins and Allen sitting. Powell at Number 10.
Would give Gregory a bit of support as well.

It's definitely got a 'I've just discovered Photoshop' vibe going on.

I'd put him on the right of the front 3, he does have a great pass on him, can cross, can head the ball and puts himself about too. Considering inces form I'm surprised this hasn't been tried.

What's 'Tumblr'? Seriously. It's a blogging site, usually used by angsty teenagers.
Someone I used to be mates with in high school and college had an account on the site once. Turned out he was using Tumblr not to be an angsty teen, but was reblogging various porn gifs of quite the hardcore variety, and so was his missus! Didn't exactly try to conceal it either, he was not the sharpest tool in the shed, because he also didn't seem to understand the importance of using 'incognito mode' so his Google search results used to be... certainly something.

He hasn't had anything remotely like that, just 2 starts, 3 months apart, and a few cameos, mostly 10 mins which certainly isn't anything like a decent run. Yet you go out of your way to state twice that he hasn't done anything.

Do you just have two box-to-box Dean Whitehead types who run around and lead the press without achieving anything else, and a defensive midfielder behind?

There are different variants but generally I think the idea is for Cousins to be the holding midfielder and for the other two to put themselves about a bit, yes. Allen to buzz around doing Allen things and Clucas to be the one arriving late in the box to chip in with a goal here and there. Powell is a number 10, I can't really see him doing it in a deeper role or who you'd leave out to accommodate him in that system. I'd prefer we went with something that left the striker less isolated, but that would really mean dropping Allen or playing a back three, neither of which are going to happen. Ideally we'd at least have someone in midfield capable of driving forward. It looks like the current three are the three we're going with though, and it'll be full-on RowettBall grind mode from here on in. I guess we have to hope that'll be enough.

I just asked Mr Google what the average full-time pay is for men in the UK. He reckons it's just over £36K per year. My guess is that it's a lot less in Stoke-on-Trent.
Powell's £28K per week probably pales in comparison to the money wasted on the likes of Wimmer and Imbula.
What a crazy and obscene state football clubs have got themselves in.
That aside, I've yet to see anything from Powell to justify even considering picking him.

I think the idea is that the not-wingers get close to the striker to prevent him from getting isolated, rather than trying to work the flanks. I think that's part of where we're going wrong with 4-3-3 for years: our full backs aren't capable of providing any width, so our wide players go out there anyway. Plus you have Ince on one side, who theoretically plays the position properly, but McClean on the other side who plays like a conventional wide man who likes to get crosses in. There's no balance and the players aren't right for the system. Again.

Against Wigan I thought he was the worst player on the pitch. A full time bottler.
