Surely it's time for him to start and add a little craft to the graft? He's a goal threat too but MON seems wedded to his 4-3-3 at the moment. Dropping McLean perhaps and playing Clucas wider left might be a solution, with Cousins and Allen central midfield and Powell just behind a striker. I'm assuming Ince will continue. It's no good bringing Powell on with a few minutes left. If he's fully fit now, he needs to play.

I'd even consider playing him in Ince's position.
If not, and if the manager is wedded to the 4-3-3, we may as well sell him for whatever we can get.
Whatever his wage actually is, it'll be hefty - and there probably would be takers for him, if there was as much interest as reported over the summer

Clucas was apparently carrying an injury into the game at the weekend and still Powell wasn’t used.
Clucas was the worst of the bunch for me on Saturday but at least he had an excuse.
I don’t get why we won’t use him. Especially in a 3 game week.

He absolutely should be our striker at the minute. He is inventive, good ball control. Aware, and has a better football brain.
I'm not comparing him to Rooney at all. But his ability is probably costing him game time, he can play deeper but he is not a defensive midfielder, he can play as a striker but is not an out and out striker. When Rooney played for utd he would often track back too much, I think managers look at him and think will always come to deep to get the ball.
I would like to see him given a start up front on Friday

If the manager doesn't think he can play as the main striker play wide right or wide left or as one of the middle three and, crucually, isn't prepared to regularly play with a No.10 isn't he just a squad luxury who doesn't really serve any purpose? I don't think he can playin a midfield three, but there probably is mileage in seeing if he can perform one of the other 2 roles, especially while we're so short of anyone who can play wide www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/nick-powell-better-up-front-6834434“To make it clear,” the Latics boss said, “I see Nick Powell more as a front player - in the wider areas, up front in a central position or in a two - than I see him as a midfielder.” www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/25740068"What excites me about Nick is he can play everywhere. Be nice if there had been some evidence in Powell's various cameos for us that he is indeed blessed with a midas touch.
It looked to me like the game simply passes him by. Has he actually had a kick for us? I do recall a header skimming the woodwork.
He looks like a man swimming lengths while a water polo game is going on around him.

Somewhere in an alternative universe we are playing 4-2-3-1.
Etebo and Badou in midfield Powell at 10 Verlinden and another quick tricky winger Gayle up top.
They currently sit top of the league.

What is apparent is that two wingers and a fat centre forward just don't cut it. Clucas can give us an outlet on the left and tuck in when needed. Keep Ince in the team, but play Powell in what is effectively a front two. If not, he really is surplus to requirements, even if he is one of the best players in the Championship'.

I'd be tempted to play him up top or wide right, but if the manager won't he would be a good player to sell. His FFP value only takes into account his wages too and not any transfer, so that should make him more appealing for the board to sell him.

I dont think the manager knows what hes doing. Vokes up front? Hogan up front (on his own)? Where has Gregory gone? No Etebo or Ndiaye. None of it makes any sense.

Powell always looks composed and seems to have time to pick his passes...just what we need amongst the frenetic goings on of Allen etc
It would need a change of formation to fit him in the side, but I would like to see him just behind Gregory in a 4 4 1 1 where either McClean or Ince (not both) are playing wide
Still, what do I know

442 would suit him down to the ground
Butland RB CB CB LB Ince Allen(/Etebo) Cousins/Badou McClean Vokes/Gregory Powell
?
Obvs the defence is shite so we seemingly still need that extra man in midfield. But if Cousins and Allen can screen well, then I can't see why a variation on the above team wouldn't go some way to solving some of the goalscoring issues

For me Powell is a bit of an enigma, much hype, little game time and nothing to show yet that he’s that great. That said, I’d drop Ince and give him a go.

He didn't play out wide very much officially when at Crewe but he did drift out in his number 10 role. I'm not sure he can do it but he's an intelligent player and definitely worth a go. We need to get him into the team.

He's big, decent in the air and would probably win Olympic gold if limping was a recognised event but strong? Did you see him getting bullied out if the game against QPR? There's a quality footballer in there but no way is he a lone striker - far too fragile. False number nine with players playing off him maybe - looks like a smart player who can pick a pass. The challenge there is getting others on his wavelength.
