If not, why not? If you have not left, why not?
I left at 22/23, over 10 years ago.
Best thing that ever happened to me. Opened my mind when I left. I would never move back.

I left to go to University in Leeds in 2007 at the age of 18.
Always been academic but very much a jack of all trades, master of none. So never really knew what I wanted to do with my life, just allowed it to guide me. The school I attended, as with many in Stoke, was relatively poor and as a result there were a couple of subjects where I just had no hope as the teachers were blatantly incompetent.
I was always one of the "swots" but I played football so half got away with it.
Anyway, after graduating in 2010 I subsequently took the decision to move to London, where I lived for a good 7-8 years until I moved to Manchester, where I am currently.
I never wanted to stay in Stoke and that's nothing to do with me not being proud of where I am from, just more my desire to grow as an individual and also an artefact of where most of the better paid jobs were after University.
Anyway, it's certainly good for character building and has allowed me to mix with people of different cultures and backgrounds as well, many of whom have become close friends.
I just still can't believe we have now become a right wing majority city.

Only for university. Never had any desire to live anywhere else, mostly because my family are more important to me than anything else. Most of my friends had the same mindset too so it's a bonus to be around them. I love the city and its heritage and of course the football.
I know loads of similar folk who broke through the working to middle class line at the same time as me who couldn't wait to leave.
To me though, surely the higher number of graduates, graduate earners and graduate spenders / investors in Stoke, the better for raising its profile?
That's why I don't get my Labour voting ex gf who moved to London for deriding me for voting Tory yet I stayed in Stoke and spend all my fucking money here, she said I don't care about here yet I've not seen her in years.
A wise Oatcake poster (possibly Pedro but maybe someone else) said "Stoke is a fucking shithole. But it's my shithole. I'll love it and I'll never leave it."

So you left S-o-T and say its the best thing you ever did yet you condemn people for voting for change in the very same area? hypocrit!

It's a shithole, what it needs is a law forcing businesses to make the front of their shops look tidy. I think a lot of businesses make the area look rundown and gives a depressing feeling which just escalates the mood in the area. I just don't get it, a little pride would give everyone a boost.

I left Stoke and Staffordshire for a job, and I can't say I miss it, apart from the people, who were amongst the friendliest in the country. I do owe the City a lot as I am primarily a ceramics specialist in antiques and I virtually built a career on being "from Stoke". However I have lived in some beautiful parts of England, including Oxfordshire, South Warwickshire and Somerset, and the different lifestyle is very easy to get used to.

Are you married/courting now Pretty... Having a good old courteroonie, as the kids say these days. I was seeing a girl who was a great looker, had a good job & everything... Then it transpired she was a Blue! She got binned right off, but not until I’d $#@&&ed her one last time. Deeply shallow, I know...

I was trying to piss her off but she actually seemed to really appreciate it.

Recently had my DNA checked on Ancestry - 66% Potteries so I don't think you ever actually "leave" but I left in 84 and have only gone back for family visits. Hard to place yourself back in the late 80s but going back to S-o-T to work at Wedgwood after Poly simply was not an exciting option vs the opportunity of moving to London and then onto the US. Lived in London for a year then moved to Boston, Miami/Ft Lauderdale, Birmingham (Alabama), New Orleans (obviously), Hoboken and finally Manhattan, NY.
I'm proud of my heritage but saddened to see how the culture and wonderful Victorian architecture of the Potteries has eroded over the last 30+ years. Local councils have not cared for preservation taking down heritage buildings to build a Nando's or Maccy D's is not progress.

I currently and probably will not ever have the desire to leave Stoke.
It's home, all my family and friends are here. I wouldn't be able to settle elsewhere. And it's even better living the single life as well. I get to drive what I want and just about do whatever the fuck I want without being moaned at constantly. It's fan-fucking-tastic actually.
If I did move away it would have to be with a partner, I couldn't do the single life away from Stoke. I'd miss home too much.

Love the city but love being away even more. Went “travelling” (getting pissed up in Asia) and ended up living in Hanoi for what were the best four years of my life. I’m in Wellington in NZ now
Will return home at some point but I’m not in any huge rush to do so

Born and bred in Stoke but I moved away due to work in 1990. I've lived in France (twice), the States, Hertfordshire, Wirral, Cornwall, Cheshire, and have recently moved to what will probably be my "forever home" near Bridgnorth in Shropshire. I've no family left in Stoke anymore so I've got no real reason to visit apart from going to watch the footie.
Do I miss the place ? Not really, but I suppose deep down it does still feel like home. I do like to have a drive around the place when I do come back. I drove past my dear old mum and dad's old house last time and that brought back some lovely memories as well as being very poignant as they're no longer around.
