Can anyone honestly tell me what Labour has done well for this city over the last 5 decades?
Go to Hanley in the week, just see what it’s like.
It’s full of track suit wearing teen mums, crack addicts and people who can barely speak a word of English and that’s just the English people.
Then we have Johnny Foreigner, I don’t mean your hard working foreigner who actually brings something useful to the country.
I mean the ones you see outside Costa with a fag in their gob, no intentions of working, no intentions of putting back in to the system or even learning the culture.
The whole place is a cess pit and needs bombing.

I'd probably reply with a song about a county that houses a man that can't sweat.
Words and tune to follow.

"We love queueing on trolleys, We love queuing at food banks, Love zero hours contracts, but we're not fond of Muslims".
To the tune of Guantanamera.

I should be able to resist this but here we go. We are a city fucked by deindustrialisation, there are over 300 foodbanks, the town sees little investment and is struggling. When I'm there I'm always relieved by the fact that unlike Derby the people are friendly and thoroughly decent, a scouse-esque community atmosphere. All of this then just confuses me as to how we, along with the mining communities, Skinner's constituency etc, end up voting for tories after the 1980s at all much less a government which is going to only increase the strain on the city's people and facilities to levels I dare not think about. SOT, like much of the country, has been conned through xenophobia and nationalism into being the puppets of the rich elite. When they sing it tomorrow I'll feel the same shame and disgust with England that I have for quite some years now. I don't currently live in Stoke and voted for Labour when I did, but playing devil's advocate, you could consider the following: 1) Everything you have said above happened while the city was represented by three Labour MPs, which has done precisely naff all for the city since the creation of the seats. 2) If Stoke becomes a marginal, there will likely be much more government spending in the area than when the seats were safe Labour seats. 3) In Stoke South, the Conservatives put up a local 28 year old lad from a council house, whereas Labour parachuted in some Momentum gorm from London. It makes a difference. 4) Even ignoring the fact that Jack Brereton is local, the words 'London' and 'Momentum' are pure electoral poison. The CLP have only got themselves to blame. 5) With regards points 2 and 3, you could argue that if Stoke went back to giving parachuted candidates comfortable majorities, they would have learned precisely sod all.

What is absolutely vital now, is that labour sort themselves out, elect a decent leader quickly and form up a decent opposition.
BJ needs a true and formidable opposition to keep him on track and honest or we are fucked.
Labours single biggest failing for the last 2 parliaments is putting up a lamentable and facile excuse for an ‘opposition’, their only job - and let’s face it, they should have gone to town. BJ won because labour made themselves unelectable.

There is nothing to be ashamed of. Look at the alternative Corbyn or............... I recently went down to Bassetts to re-train as a truck driver. The instructor was pleased that I was a paying customer because the dole dossers have their course paid for, are good drivers but uninterested and turn up for the test, hit a cone to fail, just to stay on the benefits. Just one sphere we could talk about. The refrain would probably be, 'We'll pay your benefits.'

Fucked by a succession of labour councils and MP’s that fail to understand basic town planning and economics. The Tories now live or die by the sword. They’re in with a majority both nationally and in stoke, so let’s see how they get on.

Don’t be ashamed if you voted Tory. As a hard working, Law abiding, Ex Labour voting, Ex armed forces, Stokie, I have zero shame that I voted to repel Corbyn / Labour Party from running the country I love. Anyone who believes your situation or that of your hard pressed neighbours would have been improved long term by enabling a Corbyn / McDonnell / Abbot Government is simply deluded. “Bowen is a Tory” The tories have put lots of ex armed forces on the streets. Anyone working class person who voted tory fully deserves what is coming.

The fact some people are bewildered why stoke would vote tory in this election is part of the problem for Labour, until they stop pretending to "learn the lesson" and actually do learn the lesson they'll keep losing, either adapt to what your core voting base want or face political oblivion for some time to come, your choice.
Labour have spent 3 solid years opposing what the people of stoke voted for in 2016 and some are surprised by whats happened ? lol
