It's just as one-sided and one-eyed as those of his worst detractors, isn't it? Fair, reasoned and constructive. “One sided and one eyed”........not!! You seem to be confusing 'fair, reasoned and constructive' with 'reflects own opinion'...

The big issue I have is the 'rarely out of position' stuff as that doesn't reflect what a lot of us have seen, which is him leaving huge gaps leading to a loss of shape, or not bothering to press or close down at key moments. He absolutely has his strengths and on his day is a real asset for us but those come with some glaring caveats.

He consistently finds himself having to chase back into the glaring holes he has left behind himself

He had his best game for a while on Wednesday (as did most of the players out there) but was also all over the place at Fulham.
He's not consistent enough. He'll be controlling the game and be keeping the opposition midfield out of the game one match but then the next he'll be like a dog off a lead. Running around a lot is both his strength and overwhelming weakness.
Fetch £10-12m for him and I think we'll happily sell.

If the worries of financial issues and potential points deductions are on the horizon, people need to wake up and realise that we don't have much choice and we can't just keep everyone.
Simply put, Joe Allen commands the highest fee and more suitors than anyone else in the team. It's a no-brainer that to resolve the financial concerns, we sell Joe Allen.

Joe Allen is our best player bar none. Nick Powell may grow into challenging for that accolade, given a long, injury free, run in the side.

Joe Allen is fucking crap and has been for pretty much the entirety of his spell here, taking us from the Premier League to the brink of relegation to the third tier in the process. I’m not having it that a couple of half decent games against dogshit opposition that a player of his alleged calibre should be bossing mean he’s our “best player”. He’s been beyond atrocious for us, has unbalanced the team and has caused the ostracisation of a number of players better suited for his place in the team than him. A drain on this club and we will be much better off the day he’s finally got rid of.

He’s rarely out of position? Which matches do u go to ? That’s his number one problem. U might say he tries to cover other players shortcomings ( see crouch comments re Shaqiri) but he has continually left gaps in midfield. Moreover he gets knocked off the ball on a regular basis as he doesn’t have the physical attributes needed. As for winning a ball in the air . He runs around and falls over too much.

He's constantly out of position. That's been the big problem with him. He's improved significantly in recent weeks and was more disciplined on Wednesday than he's been for a long time, but his positioning and dog with a balloon act has been a major problem. So if he is so bad how come he is the only football player on our books for whom anyone at all would consider paying a transfer fee and matching their wages ? For the same reasons we bought him I suppose.

Under Jones' reign he was crap, but who wasn't? Under O'Neill he has showed why we bought him in the first place. He will be missed, but I really can't see us holding on to him in our finacial position.

www.footballinsider247.com/west-ham-tabling-bid-for-joe-allen-in-next-48-hours/A West Ham source has told Football Insider that the club are ready to submit an offer for Allen as they look to test Stoke’s resolve to keep him. The Championship club, who are 21st in the division, value Allen at around the £15million mark. That is way beyond the price West Ham are willing to pay for the experienced campaigner, as he turns 30 in March and has been playing in the second tier for the last 18 months. Stoke are braced for an offer considerably below their price tag for the 53-times Wales international.

Can't see how we could turn down £10m

I’m fascinated to know Etebo Ndiaye Clucas Woods Powell Duffy I know the last two aren’t strictly centre midfielders but I would have dropped Allen for a 4-2-3-1 much sooner than we went to it.
