The cost is irrelevant. The quality is debatable. We don't have 1 good defender or striker and an abundance of meh midfielders...the only 2 good uns are liable to leave in a month. Did you give Pulis 5 games before starting a similar moronic thread ? I wasn't posting then, and why is it moronic it's a football forum to discuss football related matters around Stoke City, if you believe he is going to be a good appointment fine he might be however at the moment and in particular yesterday it didn't look to me as if he has learned anything about the players. Asking the question after 5 games is moronic whoever the manager is

Has MON made a terrible career decision coming to a club in crisis with deluded fans who will hound out every manager incapable of turning a dysfunctional team into world beaters overnight?

Time we don't really have if we are to avoid relegation, the side he played yesterday will not keep us up. We're not going to sack another manager any time soon though. I hope not but what if we lost 7 or 8 on the spin?

He probably has. The fans need to stop hounding managers and direct it at the board though. All these managers aren't simply shit. By law of averages alone its just not possible.

If he keeps not selecting Badou and Etebo when available, yes. He's as stupid as the rest proceeding with Allen and Woods. Allen offers nothing for the back four defensively and goes missing. Woods can't do it alone, he's no Whelan.

If team selections, formation and tactics are anything to go by then he looks out oh his depth like the previous clowns.
Time will tell though, Tuesday will be interesting with what he does with that midfield. Fully expect Mr Invincible will still be captaining the side.

So until or if they are sold we don't play our best players in case they get injured !!!, I take it we are still paying these players wages absolute mental approach to management, we have allegedly built a squad to suit "the diamond" so we are now resorting to hoof ball up to a fat immobile lump and relying on Mr consistent Clucas to pick up the bits Don't shoot the messenger. I'm just saying it as I read it. My theory is MON is trying to develop a team with players (Butland excepted) who will be here in February. I am not a Vokes fan, I've had wardrobes that move faster, but he did yesterday what he is in the side for, to head goals. More could have been scored if the centres were better from the wide players. Nor am I a fan of "stamp on a fellow professional", "shush the crowd" Clucas, but he does have a greater alertness for an opportunity than any of the other players we have currently. His body isn't up to the pace of his brain though, so he often fails to execute what he is trying to achieve. That's how I read it. He's building a team now that hopefully will be half decent at the business end of the season rather than do a mix and match and hope for the best. Any improvement will be gradual and not the dead cat bounce most on here were looking for when Jones was replaced.

What if the improvement never comes because of he's relying on a piss-weak midfield that's neither sturdy nor creative? We'd then have left ourselves no chance because we'd prioritised mythical, far-off 'future' points rather than trying to scramble for any and all available ones given the severity of the situation?

Michael O’Neill has a 40% win rate so far which compared to his predecessor is fantastic. Are fans really saying he’s under pressure already?seriously🤔 Just remember when a certain manager came to the club for the 1st time after being appointed on Nov 1st we didn’t achieve our 1st win until Dec 28th.

He is a solid appointment who is trying to select a side from a squad with 75% of wasters and maybe a couple of players he isn't playing because they are our only saleable assets and the club don't want them to get injured. As with all things connected with this club the real problem comes down to poor timing of the appointment due to unprofessionalism by the club executive. In any case I think he's the right man to get us up from Division 1....

There's a lot more to football management than merely picking the team everyone wants. Perhaps he'll always be a manager that frustrates the hell out of us on that front, but has strengths in other areas? Surely far more important in the long run is getting a squad that believes in itself, gels and works well together. Man management, loads of other stuff. And probably most importantly is how good he is in the transfer market. Given that it's what the previous managers fucked up the most, I'd say it's also where any future solutions will come. I can't think of a time in our history we have suddenly turned it around without some critical signings being made. O'Neill's immediate problem though is that we are so far in the shit we can't really wait for the "long run", so even if he is currently taking a long term view it might well be a mistake. Well that's me trying to be rational about it. On the other hand I'm so fucking sick of watching shit like Joe Allen and Ryan Woods I won't give too many shits if he gets sacked tomorrow.

You really believe that a team containing Ward, Vokes, Ince and possibly CCV at RB will ever be even half decent seriously business end of the season he won't be here he will doing his other job.

Hard to understand what he is trying to do, limiting himself to players who have consistently shown they are not good enough, and then expects to win games baffling.

Pretty much my take on it, why persevere with players who are not up to winning games or don't give a flying fcuk when you have other better options.

But most of the players we have signed, on paper and according to their CV's are decent. It's just when they come here they turn into shadows of their former selves. Finding the cause of that phenomenon is a very big start in sorting our problems out. My theory is MH introduced the doss house mentality. The club paid no attention to it and abandoned their responsibilities and now we get to enjoy the spoils of their ineptitude every week in a freezing cold stadium eating cold chips and supping over priced distinctly average ale. Maybe the Coates should take a walk in the average fans match day experience and maybe they would start understanding what all this fuss is about!! It's wank. Edit; and to be fair reading this board if it wasn't for a lot of blokes on here going to the match because its a better option than shopping with their missus our crowds would be far worse.

In my opinion and from the snippets I have heard you are correct Hughes started the rot was far too soft with the players, the board knew this but ignored or refused to accept there were issues around the squad re. discipline etc. if as it seems this was the case the blame lies firmly with the people in charge, how Scholes still has his job is criminal.
