He used to shop in my missus' old shop and she didnt really know who was who down stoke so I often have to describe them but she seemed to recall Kavanagh being a really nice bloke.
Hated him at the time he left (much like the snake that is arnautovic) but years later you mellow and remember the good times.

Him and Thorney were shining lights in an era of mediocrity

I'm no fan of Sterling but I can appreciate he's a good player. We would be a better side now with Kavanagh and Thorne in the team

The abuse is totally stupid, some people need to grow up a bit.

I know I might be a bit sensitive on this but we’re the same fan base that boo-ed Benik Afobe because he didn’t play well in a game even though he was trying. This is then positioned against a player who left for our bitter rivals to then explain to us what a better club they are?
If Kav didn’t want to leave he could have said he was leaving to help give financial stability to the club and to try and achieve promotion. He didn’t do this though.
Comparing Thorne to Kav, Thorne’s contribution was significantly more tangible with his 30 goals in one season, Kav could be good and scored the odd goal but wasn’t the Rolls Royce midfielder some are suggesting, or certainly not to my memory.

I used to have two gerbils around the time Kav was here. They were sisters, one blonde called conker and a black one named kavanagh after my favourite player. The black one was the more timid of the two, conker was much more confident, so I suppose with hindsight I got the names the wrong way round. One day, to my horror, the little 9 or 10 year old me spotted conker aggressively dry humping her sister kavanagh into the sawdust and to be honest I’ve never been the same since.

Since Stoke put a tweet out yesterday wishing him happy birthday he’s had nothing but abuse off so called Stoke fans on Twitter since about him leaving us🤔From what I’ve been told and I’m pretty sure Peter Thorne confirmed this in a recent interview Kav was sold because we needed the money🤔 I remember the abuse when he came back on the pitch but is it warranted now? Just out of interest mate, who are you to decide who’re “so called” Stoke fans?

met kav a few times and he was happy enough to go as was Thorne s I guess the money was too good to turn down. He did make some daft comments and he also did the same in the tunnel before the play off second leg according to Clive Clark...ie why bother showing up lads etc but I guess banter Don't think was Prem quality myself We did fine without him in the end moved on

By that time he'd learned that the short quick first time pass was often the best one

He was a quality player with an excellent range of passing but long before he left he was often the target of abuse from the moaners. The upper echelons of the club have a history of forcing players out - Lou Macari talked about Steino being offered a wage rise of £400 - from £800 to £1200 - when Chelsea moved in for him just to make sure the insult would guarantee that he would move . As long as people give their best when they are here and so long as they do move to bigger clubs I would never moan about them. Wish we'd got some sellable assets in the current squad (Collins is the only one who'd deliver much income ) rather than the journeymen and misfits who make up 75% of the current lot!

Why people feel the need to actively search out people on the Internet purely to abuse them is bizarre and slightly worrying for there mental health.

I think his problem was trying to find the killer pass too often

Interestingly, he claimed at the time of the playoffs that he didn't actually make the comments about Cardiff being a bigger club...
"I was last to come out for the warm-up, which didn’t help the reception I got from the Stoke fans, but the Cardiff fans made me feel relaxed. I was expecting a hostile reception; it happened last time I played at the Britannia Stadium. There were also a few quotes in the local paper which I didn’t actually make and that didn’t help things. During the game I didn’t have my head down in fear or worry, but it’s difficult to block everything out"
Read up a lot on this for a book i'm working on about the Icelandic era at Stoke, hopefully I can get something out next year!

I did have a small laugh when he was introduced as a guest at half time a few years ago as 'Stoke legend Graham Kavanagh', getting a warmish reception in the process. Just funny how times change.
