And a decent centre back partner for him. Our back four in any combination is woeful.

Will he make that much difference though he's getting older and his backs gone again!

I'd seriously play with 10 men than have indi anywhere the squad. It's a long long while since I've hated a stoke player aw much as I have that fucking fraud.

His injury was a real shame, I thought he was starting to look half decent again. Fingers crossed he can sort himself out. He can’t make the difference we need on his own though!

Alot of pressure for one man with a healing leg fracture and a long term reoccurring back injury. It's criminal that we have so few options after so many dysfunctional seasons and so much money being spent on dross!

Let’s not rewrite history eh
I love Shawcross ( he’s one of our best ever signings ) but he’s been a pivotal part of the last 3 years of utter shite
Cmon eh

Don’t know how fit he is but I’d start him next week. If he’s not better than Ba’ath and Indi he may as well hang his boots up
Shawx and Mama to start and bring Edwards back

I'm sorry but Ryan is not going to save us!
There are big, big problems all over the park.

I’m not sure why people think Shawcross is the saviour.
He’s been out a long time, been no where near his best since his injury and doesn’t have age on his side.
He’s equally as slow as the other defenders and that’s a major problem.

he'll help massively but he won't be able to remedy that...

Agreed that he isn’t the player he was but we need a manager on the pitch at the back. The defence look like they don’t even know each other’s names.

If we can shift out all our defence in Jan and then replace the lot then great, but tat ain’t going to happen.

It won't make much of a difference, even if he suddenly became the best defender in the country there's still the other three to worry about.

Given what I posted above how would he? To be fair, although Shawcross wasn’t great himself, the team was never THIS bad with him in it. It was bad with him in there but it’s got laughably worse since his injury pre-season.

Given what I posted above how would he? Because he is a leader. Not a shouter but an organiser and a player who will put his body on the line for the team. I would be interested in how many bookings BMI and Bahht have between them. Not many I 'd imagine cos neither of them get close enough to the opposition to foul them and if by some chance they do have never heard of taking one for the team.

Have a look at the results and performances over the last 3 years I don’t think we can include the PL in this any more. Shawcross last season in the Championship was perfectly adequate if nothing exceptional. Batth, CCV, Bruno and Lindsay have all been dreadful. You ‘seriously’ cannot be suggesting you don’t think Shawcross would have at least been a bit better than that crop of useless twonks? We wouldn’t be top of the league but I don’t think we’d have seen such awful defensive stats.

If anyone on here thinks that a Ryan Shawcross return will mend things is seriously deluded. Ryan has been a great servant to the club in the past, and the club have looked after him during his long spells out due to injuries. But when you look back over the last four years and more whilst Ryan has been our club Captain and we have sunk with out as much as a whimper. Ryan Shawcross is not the Messiah he is an injury prone ageing deffender...

We have a much better defensive record with Shawcross in the team, including the Premier League relegation season. I posted stats last season. I wouldn't put him up to be the saviour, but if he can come back in decent form, he'll make whoever he's alongside look better too.

Are you saying Shawcross wont make any difference to the shambles of a defence then mate🤔 That’s exactly what I’m saying mate Shawcross is a legend alongside fuller etc but he’s been a part of this utter shambles we are witnessing Or did I miss the last 3 years I would agree, he's been part of the story of our inability to defend and do the basics over that time but I can't get my head around how all our defenders can be shit, all our midfielders can be shit and how our various strikers, wingers/attacking players can be so shit. Most of these players, though perhaps not pulling up trees, have been relatively successful at this level and above, yet they are all shit here. I feel we lack partnerships throughout the team, players that don't complement each other and are therefore less of the sum of their parts, the wrong sized cogs that unbalance the whole. Could it be just as simple as that? I look at the squad and I try and pick a team, that can defend, impose themselves, have a little bit of flair and score goals, but I cant find a formation or a selection of players that fits that criteria and the whole edifice collapses like a pack of cards, we are not just a team of individuals behaving badly but seem to be individuals that negate each other, either too similar, i.e. midfield, or too different, i.e. the attacking players and I put that firmly down to recruitment and not having a vision about how we want to play and move forward.

He’s never been a leader himself and his head is usually the first to drop when we concede. I’ll put this out for ALL to consider. In a recent interview with Rory on Radio Stoke he said “there are different types of leader. Leaders by example i e. Joe Allen on the pitch and leaders within the dressing room/on the pitch. Have no doubt that Ryan is a leader on by both on and off the pitch. Perhaps Rory was kidding, perhaps being involved internally he knows more than posters on the Oatcake. Just a thought.

I'd happily see O'Neill go with Edwards-Shawcross-Collins-Martins Indi until the transfer window opens.
Danny Batth is doing my fucking head in, at Cardiff their main tactic was to let Batth come out of defence with the ball and wait until he gave it away......
