I'm 56 years old and I've had a season ticket for about 30 years give or take I'm missing tomorrow's match to take the family to the Manchester Xmas markets...I would never ever have done this until this season...I've booked holidays etc around SCFC games as have many others I'm sure but I just don't care anymore I have done a few away games this season too but I have come to the point where even a good away day with the lads on the ale doesn't excite me Maybe it's just my age Anyone else feel the same or is it just me ? A good away day on the ale with the lads always excites me, agree about the rest though, feel similar and never thought I would. BM

Why do these people have to continuously broadcast their disinterest though? Maybe because this is a messageboard and is often used to voice opinions? Given the increasing number of empty seats recently, its probably a relevant question too imo.

Apart from short spells around the war, the 70’s and the Prem years, when has Stoke ever given fans a decent “return on investment “? If success is what floats your boat, you’re watching the wrong City. Simply the time and money invested in ‘enjoying’ yourself. When younger - even though we invariably lost - it was still possible to enjoy yourself. As the OP quite reasonably points out as you get older the whole experience changes a little and , although you remain interested, it isn’t what it was. A bit like life really, if you let it.

They can’t handle the fact it wasn’t forever You are correct, it was never forever. What is killing "interest" is the way in which the club have almost waved the white flag and conceded defeat. To go, as a club, from where we were, to where we are now, I honestly believe takes some doing.
Lambert relegated the club not Hughes. Ok we can discuss that until the cows come home, but it happened.
Appointing Rowett didn't work as expected, but the killer blow came with the appointment of Jones. To allow that man to continue on and on and on ..... until we are where we are now is the unfathomable question. Yes he was a very nice man. He was passionate. He talked a good game. The fans loved him. He could not do the job. That became obvious very soon after his appointment.
It isn't the matter of where we are at present that is the problem - it is the manner in which we got here that is the problem. That vid of JC at the "meet the fans night", or whatever it was, speaks volumes.

I lost a lot of hope/interest/ love for Stoke City about 4 years a go. Mark Hughes totally ruined my club. I still have a share in a season ticket. Three of us share two season tickets due to all of us being shift workers and living out of the area. I live in South Yorks and prefer away games these days. My last home game was against Derby It ended in a draw... Last away game was at Barnsley. Two shit teams both flogging a dead horse. I just wish that i could get a divorce from Stoke City but it is impossible for most blokes. At this moment in time i hate Stoke City but i must be some sort of masochistic pervert that enjoys pain and suffering and coming back for more So you lost interest when we were playing superbly and beating Manchester City,Manchester United, Chelsea etc and coming within a penalty kick away from Wembley after winning at Anfield? That Mark Hughes was a right twat back then UNFUCKINREAL eh Wezzo

No you don't feel the same or no it's not just him? Edit: oh I see... No you're not losing interest... As you were... Never lose interest in Stoke mate. I work with a Bury season ticket holder. I asked him today what he now does with his spare Saturday's. His answer? "Not a lot really, I don't really follow football anymore" He used to follow Bury to the likes of Carlisle on a Tuesday night. I could have cried for him.

At the end of the day, it's what any football team has been or gone through in any point or time. You'd think by some of the posts on here that we're the only team to ever go through a few shit years. Yeah it's been awful for the most part, but that makes me lose interest even less as I'm keen to see where we go from here. So chill out, and get behind your club.

Match day is about much more than the 90 minutes, even though those 90 minutes can often spoil your day and I sometimes long for the early days of the Brit where you would need a line prop to tap the nearest smoker to you on the shoulder for a light.
However, it still has to be noted that this shower of shit bunch of players really are a soul destroying bunch of fuckers. The bit in the middle of the day, does currently hold all the appeal of herpes on toast.

When I was still in the Navy i couldn’t get tickets for home game during the 16-17 season. I found a home at Burton Albion, simply because they were near, cheap, and not the Vale. As a non season ticket punter it’s a very expensive way to watch footie, and as a veteran of the bleak years (1985-2007), you felt a little unloved. Away games became closed shops as suddenly thousands of season tickets holders headed the queue before myself, then I was locked out of home games. Being posted around the U.K. I found myself going to Plymouth, Yeovil, or Dumbarton and I found it reignited the spark that drew me into football, and I felt emotions and thoughts about the game I’ve not felt since the 1990s. As I’ve got older I’ve become a football romantic, so Burton, all my local naval base clubs, form part of your affections. Stoke was a chore, Burton was for enjoyment. Do I feel guilty? No. I’ve fell in love with football again through non league, lower league and Scottish league. It’s pumped up my enthusiasm for Stoke (coupled with MON appointment), I guess it may be a middle age thing too.

Disappointed, yes. Losing interest, no way. Everything in life is temporary, including Stoke’s current plight. Looking forward to better times again, it’s the hope that keeps you going. Love the Potters. Each to their own.

I pretty much agree with that. I missed the Wigan game because I would have been too late getting back for something my wife had organised that evening. There’s no way I would have agreed to her arranging it five years ago. It’s not been the first time over the last two seasons that I have missed games either and I haven’t been that bothered each time. It’s not a case of being a Prem Lover, since I’ve had a ST for over fifteen years and have been going to Stoke regularly for fifty. It’s something about the anonymity of the players, which means I can’t identify with the team very much, and it isn’t much fun seeing us getting thumped or narrowly beaten every week by very average (or, like Huddersfield, very awful) Championship teams. It kind of drains the will and the passion. And when there’s a 200 miles round trip involved for every home game it really does test your flagging commitment. I don’t think they’re that bad for this level, but I would just like to see a coherent plan and more energy in games. Still, I am looking forward to today’s game, a feeling I haven’t had for several months. But that has usually meant that we will lose if the last two seasons have been anything to go by😒

I've lost all interest in other football.
Before we were in the Prem I was a bit of an expert on whatever league we were in, knew other teams and their players, watched other games in our league. Kept an eye on Vale/Crewe and their leagues. Fully invested in the Prem too, watched every televised game and never missed Match of the Day. Looked forward to England games.
Now I'm the opposite, I watch Stoke but other than glance at the table occasionally and check my accumulator results I haven't got a clue what is going on in our league. Couldn't give a shit about Crewe or Vale, don't watch any Prem other that what is on in the pub, haven't seen Match of the Day since Stoke last won on it. If I watch an England game it's just on in the background.
The only football that I'm interested in at the moment is Stoke, and I'm nowhere near as passionate as I used to be.
I feel like I went out with a 19 year old supermodel for 10 years, my new missus is a 60 year old whale and I've completely lost my sex drive.

I think many of us use a cloak of "losing interest" to offset the agony that we feel re our current predicament and abject demise. No matter what else we do on a Saturday there will always be part of us wondering how we're getting on. Despite the loss on Tuesday I feel a lot more positive than a month ago and got a glimpse of what it could be like last weekend......here's to hoping MoN can steer us to mid-table mediocrity which I would welcome with open arms this season!!

I’ve never lost interest totally and never will, but my interest does wax and wane and it’s not always dependent on results, sometimes I just lose a bit interest for whatever reason, other times it’s all I can think about.

Trouble is the shit performances that have been dished out week after week numbs the senses. I cant even defend the club in my local booser anymore - its full of Wolves, Villa, Shit, Citeh etc. 'fans'. I used to get really fired up, now I just keep my mouth shut, as our position is indefensible and embarrassing. So not losing interest, just under a chemical cosh.

Yeh, same here, My interest in the wider football world has decreased, there was a time in the 90s where I could probably name most players of most teams, now I sometimes haven’t got a monkeys who my work mates are talking about when they’re talking football, I just nod along and pretend I know who they’re on about. I think there’s probably been an over saturation of football on TV, it’s no longer a special event as there are games on every day of the week near enough, it’s become bit a bit tiresome, most games aren’t worth watching.
