No because its times like what we've had that will make it feel even better when we get back to where we were. That mental against wigan was right up there for me.
Plus with a manger that is banging on about the lack of width and wingers encourages me to think if we can back the team and manager with loud support until January and stay with reach of pulling away, then with new players in and out I think we'll see a better second half of the season and optimism

I’ve got sympathy with the way you feel. I’m off a similar age and the last few years have certainly seen a decline in my willingness to put myself out as much to watch the side. To be fair there has been little or no return for anybody’s investment be it time or money in that period and I just have that sinking feeling that I’ve seen all this before. Apart from short spells around the war, the 70’s and the Prem years, when has Stoke ever given fans a decent “return on investment “? If success is what floats your boat, you’re watching the wrong City.

I lost a lot of hope/interest/ love for Stoke City about 4 years a go. Mark Hughes totally ruined my club. I still have a share in a season ticket. Three of us share two season tickets due to all of us being shift workers and living out of the area. I live in South Yorks and prefer away games these days. My last home game was against Derby It ended in a draw... Last away game was at Barnsley. Two shit teams both flogging a dead horse. I just wish that i could get a divorce from Stoke City but it is impossible for most blokes. At this moment in time i hate Stoke City but i must be some sort of masochistic pervert that enjoys pain and suffering and coming back for more So you lost interest when we were playing superbly and beating Manchester City,Manchester United, Chelsea etc and coming within a penalty kick away from Wembley after winning at Anfield? That Mark Hughes was a right twat back then

We then followed that up by despatching of Man Utd 2-0 before the infamous 4-3 victory at Everton only a couple of weeks later? And you were losing interest at that point, really???

I know I'll get slated for this but here goes ! I'm 56 years old and I've had a season ticket for about 30 years give or take I'm missing tomorrow's match to take the family to the Manchester Xmas markets...I would never ever have done this until this season...I've booked holidays etc around SCFC games as have many others I'm sure but I just don't care anymore I have done a few away games this season too but I have come to the point where even a good away day with the lads on the ale doesn't excite me Maybe it's just my age Anyone else feel the same or is it just me ? I bet you'll be keeping an eye on the score though. However much you tell yourself you don't care anymore, come match day you just can't help yourself.I think the way things are at the moment though it makes missing the odd game less painful than if the team are playing well. We have been pretty dire for quite a few seasons now and I have to admit that sometimes I feel like I'm going out of habit.

To be fair you'll be pushed around and have to struggle to buy overpriced food and drink, then have a glazed 'why the fuck did I bother with this shite' look in your eyes if you go to either.

If success is what floats your boat, you’re watching the wrong City. Simply the time and money invested in ‘enjoying’ yourself. When younger - even though we invariably lost - it was still possible to enjoy yourself. As the OP quite reasonably points out as you get older the whole experience changes a little and , although you remain interested, it isn’t what it was.

I've got the same feeling towards Rosenborg (Tr.heim), but Stoke is really too important for me to try to pretend I don't care. Every defeat, every goal against tear into my soul I must admit.

I do think the way we play in the main, with zero cutting edge, added to the fact we’ve lost two thirds of our games, has you looking forward to the actual 90 minutes with all the relish you look forward to root canal treatment with a pissed fat fingered dentist. You just have the savour the moments like the Diouf one last Saturday. A shin scraping mental that makes you feel 18 again. We have the same dentist! 😁

I lost interest 3-4 seasons ago as the warning signs were there for any sane minded fan to see, didn’t renew my ST 2 seasons ago and haven’t missed it one tiny bit.
There’s taking the piss and totally taking the piss, the owners have and still are royally taking the piss.

Being a Stoke fan has never been about glory. We never have any of it.
But yes, this was the first time in 20 years I didn’t have a season ticket. I will continue to watch every game, support my team and buy a shirt I don’t ever wear but as far as taking out the hours on a Saturday travelling etc I just can’t be arsed.

I'm just about staying interested, but over the last twelve months or so, I have spoken to a lot of people that have lost interest. It's perfectly clear that people are losing interest. You only have to look around the stadium on a matchday. Why do these people have to continuously broadcast their disinterest though? You're not interested? Fine. Let those of us who still are get on with supporting the team. We'll keep your seats warm.

Take the rough with the smooth. To be fair, we had a really glorious period in the Premier League for a club of our size. We’re just taking a turn on the downward spiral at the moment. I’ll never lose interest, it’s part of my heritage, it’s in the fabric of my family. Stoke City embodies my childhood, banging a ball against my grandads wall. Imagining I was a Stoke player and self commentating as I banged that said ball against that garage door all those years ago. Sitting down, discussing tactics with dad and grandad, getting excited before the game, having sausage sandwiches before we left for the match and my dad telling my grandad to hurry up as he polished his shoes until they glistened. Walking over the old railway bridge to the old Vic with grown men feeling a belonging, part of a red and white army. Wearing my Fradley Homes shirt with pride. Getting home, usually after a defeat, my feet that cold but still plotting next weeks game as if I was the manager. Lose interest in that. Never.

Let those of us who still are get on with supporting the team. We'll keep your seats warm. I suppose that discussion of the reason for the loss of interest could be interesting. Stoke have been in a far worse condition but the fans stayed interested . My own view is that since the heyday under LMH, there have been some (many?) almost suicidal decisions made at the top level of the club. Do some fans see the owners losing interest? I certainly do not believe that the owners have lost interest, but I can easily understand how that conclusion could have been reached.
Anyway - I think the subject is worthy of discussion, and I find it far more interesting than some of the topics that crop up continually.

The premier league has killed a section of the Stoke support To be fair I don’t think that that is what this started out about. A lot of us were here way before the PL and have seen worse times but as the OP suggests it’s difficult (maybe only for some of us) to maintain that enthusiasm level you had for the match day experience years ago - especially if you have witnessed nearly every brand of crap it’s possible to serve up in a red & white shirt over the course of the last 40 years. Witnessing it all over again is, I find, fairly soul destroying. Maybe that makes me fickle , I don’t know but it’s definitely been a feeling I’ve carried for at least the last 3 or 4 seasons. I’m there more through habit than anything else.
