Life of Brian was released in November 1979.
Has this brilliant film aged well or badly?
I think it’s fair to say the answer is very well!!!!

Crucifixion? Yes. "Out of the door, line on the left, one cross each".
Brilliant.
Timeless.

Stan: I want to be a woman. From now on I want you all to call me Loretta.
😁
One of the best films ever made.....and probably cost about 10bob
I watched the fred dibnah series on youtube a few days back and immediately thought of the pc brigade and how hed be hunted down for his life thoughts if he was still alive and kicking today
He was loved by many in the day as was john cleese and the gang
All so sterile now sadly

For some reason Jeremy Corbyn springs to mind when I recall these lines from the film...
Francis: It is symbolic of our struggle against oppression. Reg: It's symbolic of his struggle against reality.
Edit. In the interest of balance, here’s Johnson’s famous Life of Brian moment...

For me the greatest comedy of all time. The final scene is just so wonderfully sacrilegious and timeless. Can't believe its 40 years ago. Went with school mates and sat through two screenings. Remember the bible thumpers outside the ABC up 'anley getting loads of stick.

Like most classics its the little things you might miss on first viewing that set it apart as well as the big set pieces.
"At this time a friend shall lose his friends hammer"

"At this time a friend shall lose his friends hammer" Without doubt one of my all time favourites and as you rightly point out that scene is brilliant, rewound back many a time so I could write down what they were actually saying, complete and utter crap they come out with but utterly brilliant

He was a grafter like most of his generation... on the shovel, laying bricks, labouring.... he and his ilk built this country
