Planes flying close to eachother

Don’t mind if this gets shit binned but..

I was at work today and looked up and there was either 1 big plane or 2 normal passenger planes flying close together like side by side and then 2 small planes like jets flying behind them..

Anyone know what this would be or anyone see it? One of the planes was kicking loads of black smoke out.. I work in Burton and they come over us and headed north west direction.

I’ve got this flight radar app on my phone and even little planes (bird scarers) are picked up on there but these weren’t on there.
