There's a touch of the Arnie factor coming into play. People set an agenda then end up backing themselves into a corner when being proved wrong. Although not perfect Clucas is proving to be one of our better players this season by a mile. He can shush and cup all he likes for me, it means he's scoring goals.

I saw it as a sort of pick that fucker out now go mental and let me hear sort of thing. That's how I saw it like let's hear how loud you can celebrate. Actually think he's one of the ones who knows how badly they've let the fans down and he was trying to celebrate with the fans yesterday to build bridges. Definitely. Both goals he went straight over to the fans and it wasn’t for anything bar to celebrate as one.

His work-rate is generally not good enough. Plus he shirks most 50:50 challenges.
But on Saturday he really upped his efforts on a defensive basis.
No doubt he knows where the goal is and his corners are very decent as well.
Maybe it has taken this long to reach his level due to his bad injury when we bought him. If he keeps at this level then for sure he will become a top player for us

He shushed the Boothen. He deserved to be fan reprimanded. We move on. He is forgiven. He is a good player. That Rowett and Jones couldn't get the best out of him is poor.

It’s taken me a while to warm to him after that time he shushed the fans but he’s been really consistent and our best player this season. Hopefully he’s even better in a system more suited to the players.

Ryan shushed the fans too though. Let's all get over it.

He’s playing reasonably well but he doesn’t help himself with the fans does he? Cupping his hand to his ear again after his second goal yesterday was unnecessary. Stoke City have updated their facebook cover photo with this very picture. The look on his face tells me it was done either in fun or as part of a genuine celebration. Definitely with the fans, not at them. There's no malice or annoyance there.

Depends how you interpret it though doesn't it? Same as his finger shushing gesture against Leeds. It’s like he’s trying to fight a battle with the fans that he’ll never win...unnecessary and takes the gloss off a good performance and two brilliant goals. I think you also have to accept that ‘the fans’ (always hard to to classify them as some homogeneous mass) can quite often be wrong in their opinions / prejudices and the lad has had some unjustified levels of stick in months gone by. I fail to see why anyone should take offence if a player decides to make a point. It seems it is often the brighter ones such as Clucas or Jack who obviously care and take this stuff to heart.

Ryan shushed the fans too though. Let's all get over it. Ryan was already a club legend and had been a massive contributor to some of our great promotion and Premier League moments. Clucas was (and basically still is) a relative newcomer and part of a massively underperforming team. Effectively, his shushing was kind of a 'first impressions' moment, which is why Ryan was generally forgiven a lot more easily (by most anyway). This doesn't mean I agree in any way with the apparent grudge towards him that's probably only now starting to fade a bit. From his point of view, I'm assuming he was frustrated at getting badmouthed by some supporters at a time when he was probably struggling to get back up to speed after his injury. His mistake was in assuming people would understand those frustrations. But given the feeling towards the whole team and the way the club was run, not too many were in a mood to put up with this apparent petulance from a newcomer towards the whole fanbase. Hopefully the player and the team can maintain and improve on Saturday's performance and the shushing can be consigned to history.

Playing Clucas in a role and position that suits him will help us all! He's got a knack of being in the right place at the right time, although his goals on Saturday were from another corner of his locker entirely. He's coming into his own now I think, and seems to be a player who needs to feel the love. Swansea was a bad move for him and then he joined us injured and took time to reach full fitness. Anyone who can score two goals in a game like those on Saturday should be appreciated.

Arnie was wank at times but absolutely unplayable in his last two seasons. Same with a lot of players that are idolised on here but you try to only remember the good times.

If he scores goals like the ones he got on Saturday he can graphically mime lewd intentions towards one of my blood relatives for all I care.

Does anyone else think he could be a better option than Ince on the right hand of an attacking 3, inverted winger I think it's been called? Has obviously got a shot on him if he cuts inside and makes room for another in the midfield 3

I don't think this is one of those threads though Hackett. There's evidence on other threads but not really here, even when people admit to not liking him much before. Personally, I always hoped there would be more to come.

There's no doubt hes the best striker of a ball out of all our midfielders. We need to get him in and around the box more often.

He has had a great season even though the team has struggled massively. Can't wait to see what he can produce in a team with some belief and maybe in a better system.

Clucas is one of several players who've never had a chance to settle into their favoured position. Hopefully, O'Neill will sort that.

As the OP said, he has been a shining light in a pile of dog-shit so far this season - think it's only him and Gregory who have been regulars who can come out with any praise so far.

I stuck up for him a few weeks back and got shot down, what a fickle fan base we have.
One win, and we’re getting promoted.
Two goals, and he’s a player all of a sudden.

That first goal, it’s like we’ve finally laid the ghost of Charlie Adam to rest.
One of our best players in a season of dross. Only problem now is how does he top that performance? 😆
