I mean, in the grand scheme of things it’s probably inconsequential, but I do wonder how they pick their first squad if they’ve only been here a day. Woods and Diouf were nowhere to be seen for months on end so has he picked a squad just based on yesterday or do the staff/players already here have a word in his ear and say these lads are good enough to play? I'm sure Delap had a lot to do with the selection, even if O'Neill had the final word. I hope not after the team he picked when he was caretaker, awful.

Wasn't really impressed with Woods today, particularly when he turned his back for their first goal. As for Diouf, it doesn't really matter if he was frozen out by Jones; he's been rubbish pretty much since he got here and he doesn't possess the ability to improve, whoever the manager is. What garbage.

I wonder if this applies to any of the guys out on loan.

I wonder if this applies to any of the guys out on loan. We stopped Verlinden from being cup tied on Saturday so I think it's safe to say he'll be back in the fold.....

In a 4-2-3-1, he would score more than Gregory. He was treated pretty terribly here by fans, which may be a massive stumbling block.

He doesn't win the ball in the air, his link play is terrible, his work rate isn't up to much. He's been a poacher throughout his career, and not much more. He was dreadful for us and he doesn't suit the role Rowett signed him to play. Unpopular opinion but I don't see Campbell working as a lone striker either.

I think that is generally accepted. Campbell is a pretty poor footballer, truth be told.

Woods is a footballer He can play , he can receive the ball in tight situations and use it well . Which is The sign of a good player There is a lot to like about his touch , technique and vision Just a shame he is a bit sh*t defensively Wrong IMO. He's another Whelan minus the tackling. Looks ok with plenty of space but put him under any kind of pressure and he will give the ball away. Can't say I remember any 'visionary' passes either, just sideways and backwards ones... As for the OP - more than happy for MON to give everyone a clean slate and form his own opinions - hopefully he will realise pretty quickly that these pair are shite. Was not a fan of Jones and he made fuckloads of errors, but keeping these two away from the first team was one of the few things he got right.

I think Diouf in a front 3 if fit and firing could be very effective. He is very good in the air at the far post and defensively very diligent when tracking back.

So begins the 10th cycle of Mame Diouf:
Where is he? Diouf scores shit loads for the U-23s Diouf gets a recall Diouf gets a game Diouf misses a sitter Diouf gets abuse Diouf gets dropped Repeat
I like Mame and still think he was criminally used out of position too much, but we do seem to be stuck in that process with him.

None of the other strikers seem to score, the fact Sam Clucas scores more than them is speaking volumes.
He's a viable option in a 433, and he can at least operate wide right from the bench or for injuries. Even with a head like a 50 pence piece I'd give him a game or two if he's training well enough

I'm really not a fan of woods. Hes ridiculously limited, has zero physicality and is just generally very average.

Not getting much love on here really, I didn't notice him losing the ball much today and his set pieces were key in our best chances of the match. Seemingly enjoying a new lease of life, great to see him back.

His delivery is superb and he already looks a key part of the MON era.
Him, Badou plus one for now please.

Yeah he was one the better ones today.
He did get robbed 2/3 times though but the movement ahead of him was poor.
Has to be him and Badou plus one as Rob says.
