On the last 2 games I have attended I have been patted down (as always) before i have gone in through the turnstyle. The turnstyle bloke has scanned my card to allow entry. How ever when I have then gone to go through the block entrance the steward has asked for sight of my card. When I have asked why, he has replied to ensure that I know where my seat is. I have been going to Stoke games since before he was even born, When I have gone to go past him he has tried to stop me. I have firmly walked past him and he then called some abuse after me. Has anyone else experienced this from the stewards? I find it bizarre. If i didn't know where i was seated I would ask. Is it the fact they are in uniform and think they have power?

I'm in block 26 and have noticed for the last 6 games or so there's been a massively increased steward presence hanging around the entrances to the seats. There's easily 5 or more stewards there and they definitely seem to stare you down for some weird reason when you enter. Not the most welcoming of entrances

Is it assault or sexual harrassment to be "patted down"?

We constantly have stewards in our seats and blocking our view on the steps, a few weeks back one of them said this is my seat to my brother, we then showed him our season tickets and gave us right dirty looks and kept trying to stir up trouble constantly during the game. It seems like some of them have a personal agenda to stir up trouble.

Your average Steward probably stocks the shelves at Lidl during the week and this is his moment of Power over all of the world, just for an hour or two, bless em.

They all meet up and travel together in a mini bus to the matches, have a bit of a ruck then travel back and compare stories.

This is such a long throw from the olden days.
Back then, fathers would ask season ticket holders to take their child through the turnstile. It's ok mate they said, he will crawl under the turnstile. Well I reluctantly consented to do it one day. I say reluctantly, as I really didn't want to take responsibility for someone else's child. Anyway, this kid had obviously grown a bit and couldn't get under the turnstile. No problems at all - the security guy said "Give im here", and lifted him over the turnstile.
Happy days.

One of the reasons is to make sure people are going to the seats they are supposed to. It is common for two people with seats apart that want to sit together so do so. If you went to your seat and someone else was in it, you would moan your bag off and blame the steward for not checking their tickets.

Does that really happen though in this age of all seater stadiums? Back in our dizzy days of the Prem ( seems so long ago now doesn't it) when the stadium was pretty much full, if you didn't sit in your allocated seat then someone was always going to come along and claim legitimate ownership. Might get away with it now we are only half full I guess but surely it's still not worth the hassle?

" yeh this guy came at me so I filled him in", Then another one pipes up " Yeh but I had someone come at me with a bottle so I filled him in, knocked his teeth out, and put him in hospital" and the next "Yeh nice one, but I filled two of em in at the same time and one of em's gonna be eating his food through a straw for the rest of his life" and the next and the next until the last one took on all of the Boothen, single handed, and piled em all up next to Stan's Statue, not that they would have a Scooby Doo who Stan is! Only your wife/girlfriend should be the beneficiary of too much testosterone and certainly not in the violent way of course!!

Block 17. Normaly the same guys every game. No problems at all.
The pat down outside is a joke, but necessary.

Cant really see the point of being patted down. At HT when they open the exits for the smokers you can get in and out unchecked, even without a ticket, so anyone wanting to take anything in that they shouldn't just needs to wait till then.

In the world of supermarket employment, Lidl actually pay some of the top rates. Their shelf stackers wouldn’t need to work at Stoke.

If you went to your seat and someone else was in it, you would moan your bag off and blame the steward for not checking their tickets. That’s explanation is my understanding too, given the reduced attendances , even amongst ST holders , people have been swapping blocks from their actual seat ..of course when full it wasn’t worth the bother as you’d have a high percentage chance of sitting in someone’s seat who’d turn up .. now there’s a reasonable , but not guaranteed chance of the seat remaining empty throughout the game

But you cant get into the smoking area from outside of the stadium, just from inside.
