After seeing how bad NJ has been the worst decision was getting rid of Gary Rowett. With him still in charge we could still be a mid table championship team. Getting rid of Rowett was the right call. Getting the successor wrong doesn’t mean the original decision was wrong. But of the named managers he is the only one that didn't take the club backwards. If anything he steadied the ship and as much as he didn't meet the club / supporters expectations of pushing for promotion, From where we stand before and after his management he over-preformed where we where headed.

How is being 14th in the Championship after spending £50m not 'backwards'? He's helped create this mess. Our FFP concerns largely stem from him wasting the biggest budget in the league. We're lumbered with yet more expensive players on big wages we'll struggle to shift thanks to him.

Hughes, obviously.
We sacked him too late to get in a decent manager who could get the players in to play his way (and give them a transfer window). Or had we stuck it out with Hughes, he probably would have fluked a few results together to keep us up.
It was literally a fucking terrible decision and, in my opinion, cost us our Premier League status.

NJ spend give or take a further 20 million and took us to 24th in the championship (not even taking into account what the reduction in budget falling into league one would be)And didn't change the wage structure at all. NJ sent them out on loan and before injuries they where out preforming the team, so they may or may not be "bad buys". (and actually them getting injured might be a blessing as we could get some insurance money back) Lambert and Hughes Lost us the Premier league TV money, Thats more than 50 million. So Financially the named alternatives have also done worse, and we never know how bad we would have been had we not strengthened. Is a relegated prem side with players getting pay cuts bottom half, looking at the other teams that went down with us quite possibly! Anyway FFP and the Budget should be at the hands of Scholes ect. So really they should be blamed for financial. They are all pretty bad options, but i just saying the least bad might have been to keep him.

Again though, just because his successor has been worse doesn't mean it was a bad decision to get rid. If, with no knowledge of what was to come, you'd have been given the option of more dire Rowett football, mid-table in the Championship, with what we'd spent as part of his muddled, incoherent, tedious vision, would you really be arguing he should still be in a job? He blew it and created an even bigger mess than he inherited. Jones has done the same only more so. Both had to go.

“Worst sacking”..........Tony Pulis. Now the tin hat and full body armour is in place None needed, it's just not true is it? Apologies. I was trying to lighten the conversation. My support for TP’s reign is well documented on the Oatie. IMHO collective behind the scenes togetherness pre December 2012 would have strengthened EPL sustainability. Unfortunately their wasn’t a togetherness and we are now reaping the benefits of internal political games and mis-management. There’s absolutely no doubt that the families outward persona of stability is now in tatters. If it’s recognised BY ALL that “immediate stability” is an undeniable fact and progression/ vision is next then personally my vote is for a return of TP whether that be short, medium or long term Now Tin Hat and Full Body Amour is in place

We'd finished the previous season very poorly and hadn't had an effective transfer window since about the summer of 2010. I'm fairly set against him coming back but my resolve weakens with every mention of Pardew/Keane/Rosler//Harris/Sherwood.

EPL, and sustainable EPL placings are my ambition for SCFC no less. How quickly, how we get there and our ongoing sustainability is all I’m bothered about. Whoever the manager is!!!

I'm not sure what you mean by that Owde, which bit of the above are you disputing? We won four league games after New Year's day in 2011-12.

Hughes. No doubts at all. He had to go, but I don't think he would have relegated us. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. 100% correct we would still be a Prem club on a plus note he's available 👍

Anybody who thinks we'd still now be a Premier League club with Pulis running the show had he not been binned off six years ago can't be taken seriously.
It's just tiresome trolling.

Has to be Lambert. I don't understand why we brought him in if not to prep for the Championship...he makes us a bit more solid at the back, then we go down to a level that he has shown high levels of success and sack him.

I'd go with Lambert, hindsight is a wonderful thing but had he still been manager now without Rowett or Jones ever coming in, I don't think we'd be rooted to the bottom of the table. I don't think we'd be challenging for promotion either, but I don't think we'd be rock bottom.

Pulis. We would still be fighting survival in the Premier league I discounted Pulis because we actually improved under Hughes at first, and the decline didn’t start until early 2017, nearly four years after Pulis had left. Another interesting debate is what the fuck happened with Hughes in his fourth year with us? Where did it all go wrong, and it wasn’t just Arnie leaving? In my opinion it started with the signings of Imbula, Berahino and Wimmer...............nearly £50m spent on players and paying huge salaries to these wasters that ruined the cohesion of the squad instead of contributing to its strength.

I think we will come to regret sacking Jones. Regardless of how good O'Neill is, if we don't sort ourselves out off the pitch, I don't think it will be too long before we see Jones' next team go rocketing past us in the league system.
