Lindsay is the worst of the lot. Yeah he's absolutely shite His confidence is shot. Can't believe Collins didn't start.

I totally agree re Smith Ward Vokes last night, they were simply not good enough. In fairness to Ward I think he at least tries, he's just not got the legs. But Smith and Vokes look totally disinterested, try and hide and I wish we had a Whelan to lay into them, get a reaction out of the idle buggers.
Lindsay I thought had a better game last night (not hard admittedly) and didn't do much wrong, we were way more solid with him there than Ward.

Smith always has the aura of a man who doesn't understand what's expected of him.
Ward, ostensibly, knows what's expected from him in the wing back role, but he's scared to venture too far forward because he knows he hasn't got the legs to get back.
His header inside in the build up to the penalty was appalling.
Votes, if he's not winning aerial duels, contributes nothing, granted he conceded a few inches in height to his direct opponent on the pitch, but his 'efforts' all seemed so lacking in guile.Hopefully Gregory isn't out for long.
The only pressure on the ball came from Clucas Allen and Badou. There were acres of space between the lines for any reasonably intelligent Baggies' player to meander into and exploit last night.
Nice football though the build uo for the first goal was, they virtually walked it in.West Brom probably put more effort nd intensity into their pre-match drills than they needed to put into the game itself.
That said, they looked efficient, athletic, pacy and hungry: The very epitome of what I thought we'd be getting from NJ. 😡

Haven't seen any comment reference wards header that led to the penalty. Just what the fuck was that??? It takes some doing in a game with no real quality for one player to be completely at fault for both goals. Im still fucking fuming at the first goal now. The ball is shifted back. Like a competent back 4/5 we move out with it. At this time Ward is within half a foot of Phillips marking him. The ball comes back and again we hold a good line but for some reason, and only Ward will know - (we all know really, it's because he's a lazy, old fuck, pinching a living as a professional footballer) - he decides he doesn't have to follow his man and just leaves him to run in at the back post and score. He is 7 yards away from him when he does. I mean, I wouldn't expect that level of shite in the over 35s league I play in on a Friday. He had one job and two options. Block the players run, the easiest of the two if you are a lazy fuck, or track the players run, get in front of him and clear the ball. The bloke offers fuck all going forward and is fucking garbage defending. He is worse than McLean. I would pay his contract up now and piss him off as far away from our club as possible.

Every manager and player we have recruited for the last 3 years has been worse than the person they replaced.
It’s not happened apparently because of lack of investment just pure incompetence from the people running the club. That must have taken some doing, even utter incompetents get lucky once in a while but Coates, Scholes and Cartwright have not let luck play a part and every decision they’ve made has unfailingly taken us to new lows. I wonder how far they will be able to take us?

What really makes me sick is the fact WBA paid 4.5 Million for Sawyers and Ajya combined we paid 4 million for Smith who was absolutely shocking, You then have our 9 million striker who cant run or Jump and looks 2 stone over weight. our recruitment over the last 2 years has been even worse than ever.

Lindsay is the worst of the lot. To be fair Carter-Shitters was by far the worst player on the pitch last night. Couldn’t pass for shit, constantly gave the ball away in dangerous areas and gave the penalty away. How he’s classed as a centre half is way beyond me. Would rather have Collins. Why we let Souttar go out on loan and brought in Shitters is beyond me as well especially with regards wages etc.

The others in that back line...well, I don't have the words to describe how bad they were.

The problem with our set up last night is that CCV ended up playing like a right back most of the time. Let's kick this wing back experiment out while we have none!!!! Ward and Smith? Do me a favour.

We should IMO of set up 4-5-1. Not wingbacks but 5 man proper midfield to stifle them and stop them playing through us... we were wide open.
Try to hit them on the break... you have to set up to defend first and attack second in our situation especilly with their midfield... it was naive.
Campbell was surplus to requirements last night... offered fuck all and can’t defend... and to top it off can only manage 60 mins!

Just watched it back. You are right. Ward was the main culprit. Lindsay was slow to take off to try to intercept the cross, but Ward never moved. He just watched the man run in behind Lindsay’s back to score.

Amazingly Jones sold Pieters and brought this over the hill pensioner in as a replacement, great bit of business again Nath. topped of course by the acquisition of a RB £4m who we didn't need and the cherry on the top of his shit cake Sam fucking fat twat Vokes £9m.

After 55 years of attending Stoke games I'm prtty sure that Smith & Ward are probably the worst full back pairing I've ever seen. We have had worse individuals at full back but I struggle to recall a worse pair playing together. As for Vokes he is a poor man's Jon Parkin without the footballing ability/attitude, i.e a lazy, useless fat bastard Broomes/Buxton But getting there Tommy Smith makes Lewis Buxton look like Cafu.

Liam Lindsay makes Ibrahima Sonko look like Franz Beckenbauer. The single shittest centre back I’ve seen for a good while. It’s baffling that Barnsley got promoted from League One with him in the side. Just how bad is that league?

This would definitely work if we had any pace to hit teams on the break. First action in January has to be two new young pacey wingers (ideally three in case one gets injured or turns out to be shit). The fact we’ve signed no players with pace in the last two years is beyond negligent.

Someone said to me last night Vokes didn't win a single header and I disagreed so on seeing this thread have just checked and he won 11 headers according to the stats guys- I thought last night he was far from the biggest problem - is he worth the money we paid hell no but at least he looked arsed unlike the young 'talent' next to him- when fit it has to be Hogan and Gregory for me
Ward I thought was steady (apart from the goal) until he got hung out to dry by moving him into the centre where his lack of pace was magnified
Smith was garbage along with Lindsay and I didn't like eithers response to team mates making mistakes , throwing their arms around like frikkin primadonnas when they were both consistently making crap decisions/passes- how the hell was Smith captain at Huddersfield??
I was trying to remember the last great game Allen had and when was the last time he made a killer pass ? He is a major contributor to our lack of creativity but some people give him an easy ride because he runs around a lot
It really hit home last night what a pile of steaming poo Jones has lumbered us with- very depressing
