Another drama worth a watch. BBC1 9pm Sunday.
Based on WW2 from all sides touching and scary at the same time.

Pretty good however getting a bit silly in that all the characters end up meeting each other.

We are through six episodes now...
It's drama,so not the world at war (the greatest documentary series ever made imo), but it's making a reasonable fist of showing how events unfolded in 1939 and 40 and affected the lives of ordinary folk with resorting to sensationalism. It's pretty easy to follow and they aren't overdoing the gore, so I'm getting my daughter to watch it, today's youngsters will benefit from seeing what their great-grandparents went through less than 100 years ago.
Some of the spoilt young self entitled adults would benefit as well, the ones on the apprentice didn't even know which year WWII started ffs.

A decent series and good acting by many. The American reporter narrates the story well and the story gives both sides of the terrible time western europeans suffered at the start of WW2.

Spot on regarding the world at war documentaries mate, They were amazing, thank god they did it when there were still veterans from all services and all sides still alive, remarkable television.

I still watch them if I stumble on one the beauty of 600 shite chanels to flick through lol. Although I have to say Band of Brothers is right up there with me.

It’s quite good but I get irritated by some of the inaccuracies and anachronisms, largely because I’m a history anorak.
Apologies, but to name but a few:
1. Civilian entertainers would not be given free rein to walk around an operational hangar and it was unlikely that there would be concerts at fighter bases during the Battle of Britain. 2. Spitfires and Hurricanes would not be serviced together in the same hangar, even if they were on the same base. 3. The Spitfires are just wrong: they are all later models (to be expected, since there’s only one early model type still flying today) and one even has D-Day markings. 4. Polish soldiers did not carry sub machine guns in 1939. 5. The Polish Resistance fighter (Ep.7) was brandishing a Stirling sub machine gun (a postwar weapon) when he wouldn’t even have a WW2 Sten SMG as early as 1940. 6. The French Resistance was not that well organised as to operate escape routes to Spain as early as 1940.
There’s a lot of mythology about WW2, and this series taps into a lot of the usual bullshit although it does offer some interesting perspectives. And I could go on but I’m boring myself.
