Rory's out again tomorrow, folks. 4.10 Wolverhampton. Not sure his weight's down enough for a win yet but he likes the track. Been in the frame 4 runs out of 6 there.
Maybe Santafiora for the win. Won nicely there last time out, only gone up 1lb & generally runs well at Wolvo.
Could be that Rory would tuck in behind her at halfway & then follow her up through the field.
It'd normally be a £5 e/w on Rory but I might have a little RF dabble on the pair of them too.

Had a change of luck this weekend. Two or three winners at reasonable prices, picked by myself. Hugh Taylor had a winner too, which I had a small bet on. He tipped it up at 8/1, and I managed to get on at 11/2. Maybe the tide has turned.

I was never into horse racing much but I did get to know a bloke who was an owner as part of a syndicate. I politely asked about the horse in conversation and he told me about it and mentioned to back it at the weekend.
I didn’t take his advice and it won. Next time we met a week or so later he asked if I’d backed it. ‘No’ I said, ‘ I forgot, but I see it’s running next weekend so I’ll be certainly backing it then ‘
He then told me not to bother, it won’t win. Despite being fav it came nowhere. Each time we met he’d say yes or no as to whether it was worth a punt and each time he was bang on. It either won easily or came nowhere, usually the latter, but when he gave me the nod I always won a few quid.
Made me think there was a bit more to racing than the average punter knows that’s for sure.

Even though I bet, I think it's bent. One thing I hate, is if I bet a horse, and it front runs. Inevitably it fades, or gets beaten. Frustrates the life out of me.

Had a bit of a win today, but that Hugh Taylor wants gelding! His tips are atrocious at this moment in time!

Made me think there was a bit more to racing than the average punter knows that’s for sure. I like Horse Racing purely for the fact that I seem to always be on the fringes of it and generally aware of it as an important way of life for many people. My work seems to take me everywhere from Dorset to the Marlborough Downs and the Cotswolds, and I must know of a dozen stables, mainly National Hunt, in the region. I have no inside knowledge of things and do not follow form. However I do sometimes have a bet on the sound basis that I like the name of a horse. I seem to do really well on the Oaks and my big winners have included Scintillate at 20-1 and Jet Ski Lady, although this is now some years back. I liked the name of JSL and it came in first at 50-1. I wonder how many people were backing that, so presumably not many or the odds would have dropped.

Arc day.
Even worse ground and an even worse field than usual! I hope Enable wins because there's nothing in the race I'd like to see beat her.
One good thing, it signals the the Nation Hunt season 'proper' is about to start.

I used to follow racing many years ago, and followed the form tables , mainly in the Daily Mail or Sporting Life( or equivalent). I'm out of touch now. What's the best paper for racing....Racing post? Also my memory is going...what is the OR, C and how does the form number work on the example below?
Roman Dragon23
Age: 2| Weight: 9-9
J: Unknown| T: Tom Dascombe| OR: 86| C
Form: 2511

I wouldn't buy any paper or follow any tipster personally. Racing post racecards are the best (In my opinion) In your example above 'OR' would be the 'official rating' of the horse. The 'C' would suggest he is a colt. The form means in his last four races he has finished 2nd, 5th, 1st, 1st.

I’ve never taken any notice of both so I can’t comment on their worth.

The bracketed number next to the jockey's name is the jockey's claim. On the below card Ray Dawson, on board Patient Dream, has to carry 3lbs less than the horse should carry based on their official rating (OR). Once a jockey has x amount of winners they lose their claim. Claims start with 7, reduces to 5 based on the jockey winning 20 races and then reduce to 3 based on further winners (not too sure how many). www.racingpost.com/racecards/21/goodwood/2021-07-29/788179/

Even if racing were dead straight most people would still lose because the bookies have the odds in their favour most of the time. It's as simple as that.

Huge clash in the Clarence House (3:35 Ascot) tomorrow. Think Energumene will win but can't ignore those odds for First Flow so taken that at small stakes.

That was ace.
What does Mullins do? Go harder from the front and try to run the finish out of Shishkin at the festival?
Commiserations to whoever it was (Tony Bloom?) who did £360k on Energumene!
