Whether political, religious or random, the most shocking thing to me when hearing about something like this is that I don't feel any shock.

November 21st 1974. The night of the Birmingham pub bombings. I was in Brum city centre that night and will never forget it.
It was also the week Stoke signed Peter Shilton.

And I think it was very soon after that we played at Birmingham City and won 3 nil with 'that' Greenhoff goal being the highlight of the day. I was there. Erie day with shop windows boarded up near New Street and Birmingham Zulu's after us as we were all on that big terrace at the side....

I suppose we'll see how it pans out, I was a serviceman during some of the IRA's 'reign of terror' so I suppose I was made more aware of the threat, actual or perceived, than most, we were actually given torches and mirrors on sticks to check under our vehicles every morning. It won't be too long before there's mandatory baggage screening checks at train stations, entry to more buildings etc.

Simples... NAAFI Royal Navy Sweatshirt and my Tiffs hat strapped to the outside of my rucksack... Never waited more than a few min at the end of the A38 in Plymouth...

Having said that though Ely, there is no fucking way I would hitch from Plymouth looking like a sailor now, just asking from trouble... Lee Rigby sort of springs to mind.

I don't do so much travelling around lately but when I was a few years I never really saw many hitchhikers, used to be queuing up at roundabouts in the 80s

Which means he'll get much more support than the people he tried to stab to death. Strange how attempting to stab someone to death is now seen by some as a 'cry for help' rather than attempted murder.

Mental Health Act now invoked
It's not some terror group it's just one nutcase.
We will continue to see more examples of this sort of thing - from white people as well crap slinger - as long as we continue to (& pardon the pun) slash mental health budgets
Care In The Community is not a safe answer in many many cases, it's the cheap one.

I believe the Provisional IRA at its peak numbered 400 people. How many terrorists do we have to contend with now?

The security briefs I had in the Navy could be real eye openers as to what was really going on.
