Like him as a bloke but has his career been that good at club level? Two relegations and two promotions is it? Got a skint Millwall into the play offs in his first season, was a fag paper away from getting the Irish in the Quarter Finals of the World Cup in 2002. Sunderland were pretty much relegated when he took over, got them in the play offs in his first season in the Championship, then automatically promoted the next. Got Wolves (skint at the time) in the play offs in his first season, finished 7th the next then get them automatically up in his third after being top all season. Then kept Wolves in the top flight for 2 season for the first time since the 80s. Got a chronically poorly run Ipswich in the play offs and the top ten twice which wasn't far from a miracle looking back. People may mock him but compared to the utter shit we've had managing our club lately he's an absolute managerial fucking genius! Not too shabby when you put it like that. And as you say light years ahead of the utter dross served up by our 3 most recent incumbents.

Top man Mick. If Jones has a shred of the career Mick has, I'll eat Jacob Rees Mogg's top hat. I thought that was a great clip, Sheiky. Never seen it before, and can't ever remember him cracking up. He seems more the dry humour type, to me. Not saying I want him as a manager, but he seems a decent bloke.

Straight talking down to earth Yorkshireman. Shit manager. For a shit manager, he's got one hell of a good record in management. Promotions and Play Offs with every Championship teams he has managed including Millwall and Ipswich with zero budgets.

Sometimes managers' records can get skewed once they hit the Premier League. Managers like Warnock and I suspect McCarthy have poor Premier League records because they overachieved in getting clubs promoted in the first place so their clubs struggle to stay there. That's my theory anyway.

That's my theory anyway. I like your theory, and since no established Prem teams will give them a gig very often they end up in the Prem with teams not really geared up for longevity in the Prem.

Managers like Warnock and I suspect McCarthy have poor Premier League records because they overachieved in getting clubs promoted in the first place so their clubs struggle to stay there. That's my theory anyway. McCarthy has always done well at every club he's been to. At every club he has managed he has never had a budget to work with either. Millwall, Sunderland, Wolves or Ipswich Wolves were in terrible financial trouble when he went there and he was told they would have sell their whole first team. He got together a collection of youth players and low league freebies getting them to the Play-Offs and then promotion. Even after promotion he was not given any budget and kept them in the Prem for a season. Even after promoting Sunderland with 94 points he was not given any budget for the Prem and hence they struggled. Got Ipswich to the Play-offs after they sold all their best players too, and they dived after he left.

I like Mad Mick. I could think of worse managers to take over if NJ left.

Awful manager.
One of only of three that I wouldn’t want repacking Jones that I’ve seen named.

The game has moved on from managers like Mick McCarthy. Wanker Primadonnas don't take any shit off managers these days because they hold all the aces.

McCarthy is an excellent motivator. With the quality of players in our squad we should be walking this league.

Pardew has a better record and is a better manager. I wouldn't want either here. He is, really!!? Same number of promotions. Less relegations. Got to two FA cup finals and proved he can manage big players at Newcastle. His win ratio over a similar amount of games is higher, with a greater percentage of games at a higher level.

March I had you down as a Wiley old bugger , but you’ve been taken in by vested interest if you believe it ,those responsible fir assembling the squad use it to defer blame to the succession of managers they’ve appointed , the myth that’s it’s a squad full of good under achieving players is nonsense , we’ve three decent players plus Ryan , the rest are playing at the level they deserve and merit

McCarthy, MON, Pardew and TP all suggested as viable replacements for Jones. I hope to fuck Jones manages to get a run going soon.

McCarthy has just managed to mastermind a goalless draw against a country ranked lower than the footballing greats of Gabon, Congo, Syria and Cape Verde Islands!!

You mean the man who manages a team unbeaten, top of their group and going to the Euros, over a clown who has won four games in 30 odd games and lost to Crawley the other week? Were you any good at Top Trumps?! 😁
