Born and raised in Stoke up until 21.Went to Uni at Liverpool, moved up and down and around for jobs and now living in Tokyo for 10 years. Nowt to do with the opening post but just wondering what it's like to live in Japan? What's Tokyo like? Just curious. As for me, born at The Haywood, within sight of that shit hole aka Fail Park. Grew up in Birches Head, went to school in Trent Vegas (St. Joe's) then spent 10 years in Manchester, moved back to the Birches Head Massive, now live in Stone. And I'm City 'Till I Die.

This one looks a bit like - how many real cockneys are there ?
my understanding of that is:- a true cockney has to be born in hearing distance of Bow Bells, or something like that
If you apply a similar logic to this question (rightly or wrongly)
Given Stoke is one of Six relatively small towns, you could argue, true stokies are only those born in the town of Stoke.
that means there would not be very many as, its a rather small place.
like there would be a miniscule number of people who could call themselves 'true cockneys'
However:-
My Take is:- it does not matter where you are born - more - you've got your time in following them or actually, turning up to watch them

I was born and have always lived in Newcastle-under-Lyme. I didn't know Newcastle Town existed when I became a Stoke fan (during the first Macari era), so don't call me a glory hunter.

This article may be of interest to those oldies borne in the City General or North Staffs RI complex. www.workhouses.org.uk/StokeUponTrent/Note the map of the site and reference to vagrants and imbeciles! How times change, largely for the better. The old City General was often still referred to as "the old workhouse" when I was a kid in the 50s and my father used to jokingly threaten to put me in there if I was naughty - big joke. I left my tonsuls there sometime around 1954.

Born at one of the Stoke hospitals (can’t remember which😜) and then lived in Fenton until I was seven before moving to Weston Coyney. Either way, always the right side of the city. But I haven’t lived in Stoke full-time since leaving for uni, and have lived 90 miles away for most of my life, so only the Stokie gods know why I have had a season ticket since about 2005!🤔

I remember Les Lowe...Sadastic Bastard...He'd be on a charge in these PC days. Deffo shagging Mrs Bird...Lucky Twat. Mr Horribin was in charge during my days at Moorside. He too, incidentally was shagging Mrs Bird... When I was there he was deputy to Mr Crawley. Didn't he knock over and kill a kid, totally cleared of any blame...

Born at the City General, raised in Trent Vegas, had a three year stint in Wolves for Uni (what a shit hole), then back to Stoke for about 12 years before moving Stateside in 2007. Is this you Rob Clarke? 😀 I indeed it is, John. Proper fucking Sherlock Holmes you are

NSRI was in Hartshill, which is in Stoke-on-Trent. What's the one on the A34 on the way into castle. That one. I thought that was the NSRI? Same one that fat take that wanker was born in. The one on A34 is the old City General. I used to walk through it on my way from Lincoln Ave in Clayton on the way to the match. Also on the way to Newcastle High school. I tell my kids I walked to school every day 5 miles up hill both ways, which is technically true because you had to walk down into the Lyme Valley and then up to Penkhull on the other side. My dad passed away there many, many years ago. Part of the hospital, which still stands today, was the Victorian workhouse. Pretty grim place.

Thanks for clearing that up. Had my tonsils out there as a 6 year old. Kin cried every night in there on my own. A reet horrible place back in 1979 for a wee nipper to be at night. I've never liked hospitals since, but I suppose nobody really likes the ozzy do they.

Born - Parents’ bedroom, council flat, Clayton, Newcastle-under-Lyme... Highly recommended 👍😀 Wimp. I was born in the kitchen of my parent's terraced house in St Clair Street (Florence). It was winter and there was no heating upstairs. When I was 6 we moved across Chaplin Road to Hales Place and when I brought my first house I moved all the way to Frenchmoor Grove (off Star and Garter Road). We were one of those old pottery families who considered anywhere other than Longton, Fenton or Stoke to be somewhere a long way away, probably near to Siberia! My Dad was born in the street that backed on to the old Stoke End and went to the school behind the Boothen End. We have always been well travelled! When I was about 30 I finally moved all the way to Penkridge but since retiring the lure of home has dragged me back to Stone.
