Stoke's Twitter account seem to have chosen to put together an Ade Akinbiyi goals compilation today.
Not a goal machine by any means, but not the worst striker we've ever had on our books, and we made £600,000 in his move to Burnley. Not shabby for the club at the time considering he was a 'free' transfer.
EDIT: Turns out he's turned 45 today so that's why

Always remember him making a point of getting in Marc Bircham's face as the little fucker got subbed. Bircham went as white as the bird shit on his head. Couldn't dislike Ade even if I wanted after that 😂

07/08 home to Burnley. Ade got warm applause and Jimmy Oconnor got hammered. What was that all about? Bloody ridiculous.

Loved the guy - energy, enthusiasm, aggression - all on display every single time he played.
He made the absolute most of what he'd got - not too many of the current crop could not say the same unfortunately.

Remember against Watford at Vicarage Road Ade missed an absolute sitter in front of the Stokies in the away end & he proceeded to do pressups as a punishment to himself in front of us!

Adi Akinbiyi seemed like a magic talisman. Played a big part in keeping us up in '03. If we'd gone down, doubtful we'd have made the premier league 5 years later. Inspired some of that DNA we got famous for. Like a morphic resonance that was the perfect fit for Riccy Fuller. His goal against Reading was one of those moments in football. Small margins. The butterfly effect. And I got all that just from listening on the radio! news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_1/2967967.stm

It's gone full circle again now. Be hoping we don't need another Reading moment this season.

Blimmin eck I 'ope not! That crazy 'league of four' we ended up in was nerve wracking. Felt like we should have got a cup for finishing top of that!

We might have done OK to get £600k for him, but Burnley sold him on for £1.7m a year later.
I loved watching Ade and his battering ram shoulder charges. We've had better strikers, obviously, but he was always wholehearted and connected with the supporters.

Wenger was very complimentary about him after our cup game at Highbury. Couldn’t believe how strong he was. We were all proud about it because he was one of the best managers in the country and we respected him back then.

Absolute star and hero of the club, to me. I was gutted when he went and we need someone of his calibre again right now.
Scored the goal that kept us up on the last day of the season, took his shirt off, put it on the floor and pointed at it, and other Stoke players kneeled and kissed it. You’d get sent off for that today I suppose.
As others have pointed out, though he’d gone by then he was right at the start of what became our gradual rise to the Premier League.

Loved Ade, came to us with a bad rep but one of those players that we loved for his work rate and physicality. Along with Crossley, he kept us up that year and I'll never forget the goal against Reading in front of the Boothen!
