Whelan away at Villa to make it 2-2 in the 93rd minute after being 2-0 down until 88mins. Remember that well, was listening to updates on radio 5. When Whelan's goal went in, my son, who's Welsh (I live in Wales), and his mate, who were playing a computer game, just smiled at me. One of those special memories lol

Ninian Park, Cardiff 2002. Times two. For me nothing has come even close, before or since. Seconded. Unbelievable night that was the mental when Oulares arse intervened...

I find it tremendously sad there's no footage of Richardson's header in 1979. Even pictures seem a bit thin on the ground.

Not a mental, but that roar against Man City in the first season was fucking nuts.

Crouch's volley and the subsequent Poznan. A truly beautiful 5 minutes.

Lou's promotion season. Losing 1-0 to Orient with two minutes to go, then suddenly, before you could say "Steino" we were 2-1 up. I often think of the moment Graham Shaw put the ball across and you see Steino running in with literally an open goal in front of him. Oh man, what a feeling. Then there was Assaidiiiiiii!!!! Jeez, what a mental. I totally lost it. The best way of describing my reaction would be a cross between Graham Norton and a demented Dalek. I was all over the shop. Just awesome moments. What else could ever make you feel like that. There's hilarious footage of that which I've got where the ball boy flips off the Orient fans behind the goal

For sheer cathartic hysteria, Ninian Park for me, but I was there for Notts County away and at Wembley in'72, and they were fantastic in their own way. The best mentals surely have to connect to winning something, whether it's a trophy, promotion or a cup semi etc? Just a question, although I did blow a gasket when that Sidibe winner went in against Villa!

Great that the majority of us were behind that goal. I was in my final year at uni in Sheffield and came down for the game when I should have been revising for finals!

Whelan away at spurs. Simonsen saved everything that day and when Whelan scored the away section erupted like a volcano. Epic day. Beatties header vs citeh with 10 men. I wasnt at that Spurs game but two of my mates who were said it was right up there with the best mentals of all time.

is that cockney Ted at the front it wouldn,t surprise me I went the away match at Wrexham and the noise made when Denis Smith ran on to play was deafening; as everyone feared he was unfit for the game!! I am on one pic in the article of the Notts County game, amazing season and final day!!! The later is still the best mental for me as it came after the crowd had realised Sunderland we winning and we needed to win!!

Best of all time for me that I’ve attended was Lawrence’s winner against Coventry in the promotion season - from feeling like we’d blown our big chance to go up at half-time to pretty much knowing we were going to do it was an amazing feeling. Genuinely lost the plot when it went in.
Couple of rarely mentioned but excellent ones that have come to mind too - Huth getting a last minute equaliser against Liverpool at home in I think 2010 or 2011 and Diouf equalising away at Spurs in a 2-2 draw after being 2-0 down at half-time in about 2014 I think. Fans were absolutely amazing that day in the second half and after Arnie scored a penalty you could just feel the equaliser coming. Think Stephen Ireland almost scored a winner too, probably would have had a heart attack if he actually had!

That mental when Beattie scored the header against Citeh and the atmosphere throughout was the best I've ever experienced. Closely followed by the mental when Arnie scored against Liverpool in the cup and the away end during that game. How times have changed

Brynjar Gunnarsson's goal against Sheffield Wednesday at The Brit is right up there for me even though it's not on that list. 3-2. 2002 was it? Mental. Just before new years

West Brom away 1-2
Unless my memory is playing tricks, it was:
Windy day 10 or 11 thousand of us there to watch us climb above the Baggies and go top ( a position we would never relinquish) The fan that jumped in their paddock on his own. Though we wouldn’t know it, the start of a long unbeaten run against the Baggies.
What a day!

Steve Foley at Brighton's Goldstone ground, last minute to beat the club's unbeaten record. Wesnt absolutely mental One of those games like the Anfield League Cup (Tony Kelly equaliser) game where it seemed like every Stoke supporter was there. For once in our history, we were the club that every rival supporter at that time (Vale, Stockport, West Brom etc) just knew that we'd sneak an equaliser. We seemed unbeatable, and for more than half a season, we were.

Apologies for the young uns who will never know, but any mental in all seater grounds I am immediately discounting.
Thats not a mental.
Carl Beeston versus Newcastle in front of the Boothen at the Vic. Paul Barnes at Brum - the loudest ever song after "Youre not singing any more" sparking some rather irate Brummies. Tupperware at Peterborough. All epic but so many more, good memories.

Some great memories on this thread. I'd add Spiders winner against the sh*t, Boxing day 1984. Off my feet and 20 yards away within a few seconds, made all the more pleasing by my sister having a pint of Bass chucked over her new flying jacket she'd opened the day before!
The best for me personally and most recently has to be the first against Bolton in the semi, for a number of reasons: My dad had just had just been confined to a wheelchair and it was his first match in years (gloryhunter!). We had a whole disabled area all to ourselves so I was able to stand the whole match. Going completely mental when the first went in and running up and down the 20 yard enclosure. Watching my dad trying to stand up to join in! Not even a jobsworth steward could spoil it with 'Sorry sir but you can't celebrate a goal like that in there!!

Boxing day 2007
Barnsley away
Lawrence hat trick
Liam Lawrence earned Stoke City a dramatic injury-time draw against Barnsley at Oakwell with his second penalty of a match in which half the goals were scored in the final six minutes.
Went from the back row to the front and barely touched a step.

Tony “the black pearl” Kelly at the Anfield Road end in 1991 in the League Cup. Can still remember the bedlam and sheer disbelief in the away end as a 16 year old as if it was yesterday. Watching endless video replays of it on Granada soccer night the day after - “He’s shortchanged Grobbelaar”. Paul Ware at the Peterborough semi, Steino at the Burslem bog with Stoke invading the pitch from the Lorne Street, Whelan at WHL, all 5 at Wembley, Mama at home V Villa all worthy of a mention as well.
Were we in the away end? I have a memory of the away fans being at the side of the pitch in the Kemlyn Road stand. But my memory plays more and more tricks as the years fly by
Also I can't believe nobody has mentioned coming from behind to beat Man U on Boxing Day during "that" season.
Oh, and talking about mentals that never were, anyone who was at Boundary Park in the very foggy first round of the Auto whatever cup it was, will remember us celebrating every time the ball went past the halfway line, since we couldn't see a thing at the far end of the pitch, and ratcheting up the goal count in our chants with every "goal" celebration.
I think we did actually win 1 - 0 and went on to lift the trophy.
