More or less played there yesterday, did it under Hughes too in a spell where he actually went on a little scoring run.
I think his lack of pace in midfield, coupled with his pressing can be detrimental as it leads to him often being out of position, however stick him a little further forward and he can press high up.
He's been dodgy for a while, he certainly isn't either defender in a two man midfield, number 10 might be where we see his best football.

Keep him away from anywhere near our half, if that means sticking him in number 10, so be it. For all my Allen criticism this season, he played really well yesterday.

Allens played well since coming back from suspension, that was his best game in a long time yesterday. Having him and Gregory pressuring the opposition defence works well.

No, but he did press well yesterday.
Still not good enough to be in our midfield.

No, but he did press well yesterday. Still not good enough to be in our midfield. I think with Etebo and Ndiaye in there with him, he has license to push higher and not leave massive gaps in the middle of the park. The alternatives we have are not better than Joe Allen.

No he isn't, Powell might be mind. From an attacking aspect what Allen is good at is timing a run and scoring goals, he should get more.

Having 2 strikers putting pressure on the opposition Allen is key to helping us get the ball back quickly. Since he has been made captain he seems to have added more aggression to his game. He lead the team well yesterday and it seemed to translate across the team. The players obviously respect him and it was a great team performance.

He was brilliant yesterday, I’d rather see him there rather than in the other positions in midfield

His shot when put through was piss weak though, happily Clucas was on hand to bury the rebound 😀😀

Correct, look what happened when he had a defensive job to do yesterday. He switched off, lost his man by a huge distance and the Swansea player should have scored. If that had gone in, this would have been a very different forum today. Where he played yesterday is the only place he can play. He needs to improve his finishing though, as he will get chances coming from that position.

No he isn't, Powell might be mind. From an attacking aspect what Allen is good at is timing a run and scoring goals, he should get more. But his finishing is poor. He is much more likely to wildly miss the goal than score as he is very erratic.

I said 3 seasons ago that Allen's best form for us was as a #10
Not a great fan of his, but cannot fault his attitude, he's just a liability in our half of the pitch

Joe Allen is a player that should be playing at any team but SCFC. A million times this. He’s a nothing footballer and is our single biggest issue player wise. Number 10’s tend to have a combination of pace, skill, finishing ability, intelligence and guile. Joe Allen has none of those things. Let’s not get dizzy over one game where he hasn’t looked like a complete pile of fetid afterbirth, he’s shit.

Hopefully we’ve seen the last of them for a while.

He's streets behind Etebo, Badou and Clucas right now however.

No, absolutely no. He had a good game on Saturday, like very good. But have people forgotten when he played at 10 for a sustained period of time? He got off to a flyer then regressed horribly to his mean whilst keeping genuine 10s out of the side based on that flash in the pan. Duffy’s barely been given minutes but his creative output in the same position last year means he should probably play 10. Ndiaye, Clucas, Etebo and Duffy/Powell would be my midfield if he’s playing diamond. Allen’s had a shift in nearly all of those positions and never settled.
