Quote from Coates not Jones and a perfectly reasonable statement. The first bit quotes Peter Coates. The final bit quotes Nathan Jones:- There has been no quick fix. Jones has been frank and when it was put to him that Stoke are in a worse position than when he took over with the team 14th, he replied: “If it was just results they wanted to improve, they probably could have gone for something else. The club is in a better position, the squad is in a better position, there is a better atmosphere around but, yeah, we are in a worse position in the league. Everything else, I feel we’re in a better position.” Is this also a perfectly reasonable statement?

"The most expensively assembled squad in the Championship – at more than £143m – sit bottom of the pile with one point. Stoke, who have endured their worst start to a season for more than a century, have forgotten how winning feels; the last time they got three points was on 6 April and it is 200 days since victory before their home crowd. They have not won successive matches since October, when Gary Rowett was in charge and Dean Smith was still to replace Steve Bruce at Aston Villa.
And some people still think the fans are being unbastardreasonable!

We are a fucking shambles top to bottom. The whole lot of the club.

I do not have any inside knowledge about what things are like behind the scenes compared to before he came just that Rowett and Lambert both referred to how poor things had got with the squad, discipline, motivation etc. The playing quality of the squad is worse but it could be argued that the attitude and motivation is perhaps better.

Good thing position in the league hardly matters eh Happy bunch of lads slapping each other on the back as they slide to League One and Shrewsbury away, that's what I certainly want to see.

I've been going up Queen's for 200 days and am yet to score but I've lost weight, bought new clothes and have saved on STD medication. He’s not failed before and he just can’t accept it’s anything to do with him. It’s not going to get better. As you say delusional.

Our last 3 managers have all used this as a way of deflecting criticism. They have all been busy sorting out things behind the scenes, while failing miserably on the pitch, so we should be thankful for that! What have they sorted out exactly? Who likes sugar in their tea at half time? If there has been that much to sort out, that is an unbelievably damning indictment of the club and its overall management? What could be so catastrophically wrong that it takes 3 managers to sort out and still the results on the pitch are abysmal?

I guarantee you that whoever the next manager whenever he does arrive he will have a lot of problems to attend to and a lot of sorting out.......starting with finding a left back, looking at the details of Allen's contract and moving on the next bomb squad (which just happens to be identical to the last 12 signings) and then sorting out McClean...

Well in essence in the absence of any points on the board we're being asked to believe the time has been spent 'setting the stage', the performance itself will shortly commence!

Well in essence in the absence of any points on the board we're being asked to believe the time has been spent 'setting the stage', the performance itself will shortly commence! Yep pretty much sums it up! All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts, His acts being seven ages. At first, the infant, Mewling and puking in the nurse’s arms. Then the whining schoolboy, with his satchel And shining morning face, creeping like snail Unwillingly to school. And then the lover, Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad Made to his mistress’ eyebrow. Then a soldier, Full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard, Jealous in honor, sudden and quick in quarrel, Seeking the bubble reputation Even in the cannon’s mouth. And then the justice, In fair round belly with good capon lined, With eyes severe and beard of formal cut, Full of wise saws and modern instances; And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts Into the lean and slippered pantaloon, With spectacles on nose and pouch on side; His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide For his shrunk shank, and his big manly voice, Turning again toward childish treble, pipes And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all, That ends this strange eventful history, Is second childishness and mere oblivion, Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything. W. Shakespeare

I wouldn't say I was expecting it and I was fairly confident at the beginning of the season as my posts will show, however, after how we finished last season you could never have written off a slow start. A lot of posters (myself included) said that, unfortunately, a bad start to this season would put more pressure on Jones after what happened between January and May. However, I don't think anybody expected it to be this horrific.
To get worse from an already dire position certainly takes some doing.

Remember Brian Clough had a win rate of 12.5% after 8 games at Leeds and was sacked.
He then went to Nottingham Forest and the rest is history.
Not suggesting NJ is in the same class has Clough, just that all managers can have difficult times, it doesn't mean they are useless.
