Don't rush him back. Be sure he's 100% (or as close to when you're that footballing age and body) fit; he will be enormously welcomed back to the team, but if he plays when not fully fit, it could backfire, and then he'll missing even longer.

Too slow, My option so don’t shoot the messenger He’s better than any of our defenders even with a broken ankle. Shawcross plays and we wouldn’t have thrown some of the games we have played away.

Anyone who having watched our first 7 games, can shoehorn a negative out of this news, is ever so slightly bonkers.

Have people underestimated Ryan's leadership skills and influence on the team?... judging by the start to the season, I'd say so.

Too slow, My option so don’t shoot the messenger Famous last words. Look, we're not going to get the Ryan at 21-27 back. But we need someone who can organise the things at the back. One of the drawbacks of us playing five at the back, almost regardless of which personnel we've used, is that everybody seems to expect the other guy to make the all important tackle or block and who covers whom and who marks and who heads. At the moment it's to each his own. But Ryan will make his mistakes too, so we'd do well not to think just he will turn the corner for us.

It’s good news but like everyone at the club in the past few years - he gets better the longer he isn’t playing. I’d love to think a single player could turn things round here but even a legend like Ryan can’t work miracles.

I think Ryan is a hero but......did none of you witness 75% of his performances over the previous 30 months? Slow, hesitant and positionally suspect. If we are relying on Ryan to save the day then we'd better start planning for Div 1.

Literally he is our only hope. Don't take this hope away from everyone!

Let's play four in defence. And Shawcross and Collins in central position. Week in and week out. For stability.
Dec 10th?

I think it would be a case of ironically completing the circle, that even if Ryan returned for the New Year, we might be in such a decline that our destination for next season is League 1. Ryan effectively started our ascent to glory in 2007, and it would be sad if his career with us finally faded in company with the club. With us when we went up. with us on the way down.

Before his injury people were calling for him to be dropped as he was becoming a liability.
Now he's nearly back he's being heralded as a saviour only because our results have been wanker than wank.
I don't believe a returning from injury Shawcross will make the difference. I hope I'm wrong.

Too slow, My option so don’t shoot the messenger You’re not the messenger if it’s your opinion (or “option”??). A messenger takes the message from someone else and simply delivers it. This is your message.

Fingers crossed. I don't think we would have been where we are in table with him starting every game. As a single example the Preston game he most certainly would have cleared the header not letting the ball bounce which then led to the Butland mistake.
The lack of command at the back currently is a major issue. Too many balls not being claimed for either by defender clearing lines or Butland not shouting a claim. You could even argue Butland could have come and collected the crosses which led to both goals on Saturday. Something which Tommy Sorenson used to be fantastic at.

I can't see him being back before Christmas but those people saying we don't miss him are deluded. He is our fastest defender, a bit suspect when he has to turn quickly I would grant but would to quote Jones "run over his own granny" to prevent a goal unlike some of our lily livered defenders. Most of all what we miss is his organisation of the team. The only player I have seen trying to organise people this season so far was Badou last Saturday.
