I signed up last December for a trip to Lanzarote in an all inclusive hotel, on the beach with all the associated sun beds, etc which was to all intents and purposes my idea of hell. The reason for doing this was the gang were convening for the running festival and this was one of two hotels on offer for the group.
So after years of hearing the name Lanzagrotty and looking at similar hotels in similar resorts and page turning hotels until the brochure was thrown into the bin it came as a bit of a shock just how nice the island, resort and hotel were. The bigger shock was that the food was decent as well.
I've just booked a 5 day trip to Benidorm for the race next February on the basis that it can't possibly be as bad as the preconcaived notion based on other people's prejudices.
Wetherspoons is another surprise. After years of hearing the detractors I've been using The Wheatsheaf in Stoke after the run on Saturdays and it's a decent little place.

The problem with spoons in stoke is I have to drive past on my way to work when people are sitting outside getting pissed at 9am. Overcome with jealousy.
Wasn’t impressed with tenerife. Too many English (wankers).

Benidorm is like going to fraise’s place for a week only hotter and all the residents speak better English

Having grown up in Stoke during the 80’s, I had a deep seated resentment of coppers. About 20yrs ago I went to a seminar of a Christian copper from Jamaica, who in pursuing a drug dealer got his hands chopped of with a machete. He survived by drinking his own blood & forgave his attacker, who I think got shot or something. It was the first time I’d seen the humanity of coppers & I shook his plastic prosthetic hand. I’d love to be a copper, but for the fact I’d have to work with coppers!

You haven't been to the Wetherspoons in Stevenage new town then ...
