With us playing Leeds tomorrow,a fixture with great history.I do actually remember Lee Chapman's hat-rick at Elland Road 14/02/81,albeit via the old football videoprinter. The reason why he is my avatar,my hero of the time, loved him.Would love to know if footage of his goals are available, searched everywhere, bit like Meadow Lane 79,not recorded.Sure he got a 3 v Norwich a few weeks before aswell at home. But the question is,has anyone else scored a top flight hat-rick away from home for us?

Just as a point of interest, local and national news would send cameras to the football. So for example, I remember seeing Everton doing Stoke in early 1985 on the early evening news but wasn’t on MOTD. I watch the Leeds United: the wilderness years documentaries on YouTube (yes I know), a lot of footage is from news coverage as well as MOTD, the Big Match etc. There must be footage of Stoke still there, and I’m guessing when that Leeds documentary gets to 1981 (currently on 1979), chances are they’ll be the ones to uncover local news footage of that game.

So it was the first top flight away hat-rick since April 1947 and not done since.just to think he was a boo boy for the boothen end once.Would love a Chapman type in our side now.

I was at college at the same time as his sister. She looked so much like Lee I couldn't help wondering on occasion if it was, in fact, him in drag. Might explain a few things.

Didn't him and Inchy play for the 6th form college team? Or have I just imagined that?

Fans thought he was rubbish compared to John Ritchie (he was) that's why, but he would have been a lot better than some strikers we have had lately!

The team did get to the final of some staffs cup and played the final up at the slum against Their under 21''s A load of us went to watch it and spent the whole game singing stoke songs and taking the piss out of the Vale players and their shit ground ! It's interesting, we talk about how Stoke fans don't back their team and players now, but I can only remember moans and groans about Lee Chapman. I don't know why.... he scored 31 goals in 2 seasons in a very poor team. We would die for that now!!!....He always seemed quite clumsy, but his record was very good. I think we were still in shock from the Hudson Greenhoff era where we were spoiled. Nobody seemed that bothered when we sold him to Arsenal.

We were not bothered and I thought although he was tall he couldn't jump much more than 3 inches off the ground, so didn't score as many headers as Ritchie, who was the heading master!

Chapman was an absolute donkey for us although he did score quite a few. He seemed to improve his all-round game when he moved to Arsenal and even moreso at Leeds.
