After reflecting on the start of the season, its dawned on me there are some uncanny parallels with the relegation season and the business we conducted.
We signed 3 defenders, two of which were our biggest signings of the summer in BMI and then just days later Wimmer as well as the loan signing of Zouma. For this season, see Smith, Lindsay and CCV.
The midfield despite being a weak link was largely ignored with only Fletcher signed on a free. For this season, see cousins.
Our only attacking signings despite a chronic lack of goals and the departure of arnie, were choupo on a free and Jesé on loan. For this season, see Powell, Gregory, Hogan and Duffy.
Yet we were assured lessons had been learned and that we wouldn’t make the same mistakes again. Well it’s quite clear to see absolutely nothing has changed. There’s been a serious lack of investment on the attacking side despite being amongst the lowest scorers in the league last season & all our money has been spent on the defence despite that being one of the tightest in the division last season.

Good post.
What about the players we lost as well?
Glenn Whelan - past his best but by a lot of accounts a big voice in the dressing room & a player not afraid to kick someone on the pitch and get stuck. Comparable to Adam possibly?

It's a valid point but this is Preston, Wigan and Reading we are talking about.
This bunch of mercenaries, toerags or whatever name they have been called are more than good enough to prosper in this league. Our squad is good enough to do way better.
That leaves the manager in a precarious position because he can't get a tune out of them

The difference between this season and the last 2 is that we were still picking up the odd win here and there the last 2 seasons. I can't see where we are going to get 3 points from at the moment!
