So people are furious about CCTV and facial recognition but climate campainers are advocating filming parked vehicles with there engines running and reporting them for a 25% cut of the fine. So it's wrong for the authorities to film you but it's ok for others with no regulation on the data they collect. We really are living in a hypocrite world.

Can't we just use the facial recognition technology to point out climate campaigners. Then fine them for being in possession of bad clothing and a severe case of intolerance.
Two birds with one stone imo. Or does that offend the wildlife protection brigade now^

I always disable auto stop/start on my Dacia. Why? Because, as an engineer, I’m aware of the wear on an engines piston rings, cylinder linings, starter motor bearings and battery wear that continual engine stop start brings. Also not long ago who remembers the Magnatec Oil advert that also stated engine stop/start was the biggest wear effect on an engine even when engine is warmed up?? Suddenly it’s ok to have your engine stop and start continually. Mrs Lawry argues that the benefits to the environment far outweigh the benefits to the car engine by keeping it running in a traffic queue. I disagree because of the added exhaust emission products that are fitted to modern Diesel engines ......DPF filters, Adblue and other aqueous urea additives etc. Anybody else thinking on same lines?

Does it use more fuel though starting and stopping? Therefore more carbon pollution, I thought they were less efficient to use.

Depending where you read starting a car will equate to about 10 minutes of idling out of gear. Also up to 80% of engine wear takes place when starting. Of course this is reduced for warmed up engines. Critically some critics say that it’s easy to fudge a manufacturers fuel consumption by manipulating figures from their own start/stop data and within the rules of automotive industry. IMHO auto start stop is bollox for most driving conditions given diesel exhaust improvements. Probably only has environmental advantage in congested city centres even then there is a tipping point where it is cleaner to remain idling.

Similar to my experience I used to disable it too, they even had it when I was at work imagine trying to chase a car thief when your police car stopped !!!!

We all know the way to stop traffic emissions in towns is to get rid of speed bumps and pedestrian crossings. Keep the traffic moving. Might not fit with the pathetic PC brigade, but there it is. My BM is fitted with stop start technology it used to auto rearm after you stopped the car. Meaning you had to turn it off every day. After thousands of complaints it's now been reprogrammed so it remembers its last position. Mine has not been on since. Car engines run most efficiently at about 56mph not stop start every 10 yards for a plethora of crossings. Build some subways and some foot bridges that would provide shelter for the homeless and the druggie fraternity at the same time. I'll open a coffee shop on every bridge for the attention seeking brigade that think they want to jump off. With a bungee rope so they can try before they buy. Never thought a Milk float would be a desirable Classic Car. www.milkfloats.org.uk/spmf2.html
