I know full well we had the duration of the contract to amend it once he’d settled as may others do , I know you defend it but at the end of the day a very desirable asset went to a team that win the champions league and finished second in the league for considerable less than market value and it doesn’t wash to say “ unavoidable “ very very few premier league players at his age go for 50% of market value from other clubs And what if Shaqiri didn't want it amending? You're talking absolute nonsense here. Well others seem to manage it and we saw our way through the it with Arnie to a degree albeit we then sold to a direct rival again not something others do . we won’t agree Dave , I think our commercial practice has bern poor , you don’t , I believe we’ve a club FD and. CEO both of whom are supposed to be commercially savvy and yet the ROI on investments is catastrophic , if they don’t manage the numbers well what else do they bring .

The lack of appreciation some folks have when it comes to Shaqiri, Arnautovic and Bojan is ridiculous. "Well he was okay but xyz". I can't get my head around it. It’s a defence mechanism against the fact that it’ll likely be a long, long time before we see players that good at Stoke again.

You can criticise Stoke for many deals but not the Shaqiri one. It was a coup to get him,he was always bigger than us,in his own mind and that of the footballing world. We got him on the cheap. He wouldn't have signed without get out clauses. That's a fact you can't argue with. It takes 2 to renegotiate a contract. Why would he ? All the cards were in his favour. The problem for him is he never was good enough to nail down a regular starting place for a top club. He'll either have to accept that or move on to a midtable club like we were or go to another league abroad

thought shaq was a real good player. one i never thought i would see in a stoke shirt. but he needs to be playing regular football some where not warming liverpools bench. we know he is getting medals but they mean nothing if you are not playing ie 2 champion league winners medals and a super cup winners medal without taking part in any of those games. i would not knock shaq but at 26 he should be playing week in and week out for someone Agree at his age he should be playing more but I think that's harsh regarding his medals. He might not have played in the final but he did get a lovely assist on the equalising goal against Barca in the semi-final. That's a decent contribution in my opinion, considering he doesn't get a lot of minutes.

Is he unique in having 2 Champions League winners medals without actually playing ? I like the concept of ‘the bench d’or’ for the least utilised multiple CL winner. Maybe the ‘Shine d’Arse’

Genuinely don't understand how he's not had more minutes. I think he's played very well whenever he's featured for them. We were incredibly lucky to have a player of his calibre in the red and white.

The error you're making there Joe, is mistakenly crediting Benji with having the first fucking clue of what he's talking about.
Embarrassing himself with his complete lack of knowledge of how the footballing world works.......as per usual.
Earlier he was talking about what is or isn't "commercially savvy". I'd love to know what his own background in business is, considering the fact he can barely speak his own bloody language.

The thing is the players he mentioned were remarkable in that they were so unremarkable. Which is one reason the moracle of 2016 was so, well, remarkable.

It's truly unbelievable that 3 years ago we had those 3 playing for us. We literally were a 15 goal a season striker away from Europa League Maybe it's rose tinted glasses, but Butland ? Muniesa, Shawcross, Pieters NZonzi, Whelan Shaq, Bojan, Arnie ? That team is insanely good

World class professional. How we pulled off getting him I will never know. Never thought I'd see the like of Shaq at stoke. Now we have Ince. No wonder we have so many unhappy fans really. Ince played well again today. There are worse players than Ince getting game time at Stoke (Allen, Smith...).

Is he unique in having 2 Champions League winners medals without actually playing ? Because his contribution in the semi final v Barcelona can’t count in its history making and going MASSIVELY towards them lifting the trophy??? He assisted for the 3rd goal and was playing well getting involved.

I’ve seen him turn in some pretty average performances for Liverpool off the bench, so not surprising that he’s not first choice. I’ll always have good memories of what he did for us though. That cross arm goal celebration, nodding his head 😆
