200 years since the Peterloo massacre. At school we weren't taught this. I wonder why.

Nearly 100 years ago since Churchill sent tanks out against the Miners.
Have no doubt whatsoever that a British government would without compuction send troops out against it's own people.

Its happened in Stoke in 1842 where the Government turned the guns on strikers in Burslem Square. One man was killed and scores were wounded. The outcome? A verdict of 'justifiable homicide' and 200 sent to prison or transported to Australia. That's like a wet dream to this Government.

Aren't we going through the same struggle for representation and democracy time and again..... the powerful versus the powerless. Who is sovereign, the people or parliament? It works fine when ( generally speaking) parliament does represent the majority of opinion of the people on the big issues. Clashes occur when parliament doesn't represent people. IMHO. ( I think Marx was right in his analysis , not necessarily so much in pragmatic solutions ....not that he meant to be)

Well they didn't send the troops out then however they absolutely sent the Police, and not the local police either, to demonstrate power. And here we are decades later with old Etonians in charge and people, working class people too, continue to back these bastards who wouldn't blink at putting you and me in the grave to preserve their status.

That's crap. And you know it.

Wasn't the army minutes away from slaughtering striking dockers in Glasgow too? The army is a weapon of the elite.
