If she's got Asperger's she could hook up with Richard from The Undateables. He won't travel beyond his local area so he's savvy when it comes to pollution levels

On a broader point your views on man made climate change are usually dictated by your politics, ie liberal left leaning folk are more likely to buy into the idea probably because they see it as a way to attack capitalism/empower the state. I tend to believe in climate change and we probably effect it somewhat but I just don’t go in for all the apocalyptic stuff many of these people push. Completely agree. The issue really got pushed over here in the most recent election and backfired massively for labor. People seem to place the importance of change ahead of pragmatism and practicality. Idk about anyone else but im only 22 and most people at uni over here are boring. Once you know what they think about one thing you know what their stance is on every other thing. Can only assume its the same over there if not worse. Has it always been like this? Or is it because of the divisive nature identity politics plays thats gripped the humanities these days

I'm reponding to the points you made in the post i quoted brainache (i know that may seem a little too obvious, so may have confused you). So go on then, enlighten us with your in-depth knowledge of her, her life, her total knowledge on the subject if you can? Feel free mate, crack on....or are you criticising her without actually having a clue? What is your problem exactly with a young person having an opinion on a subject that will directly effect her (and her peers') futures? If the fact she speaks publcily at events she is INVITED to (she doesn't just turn up with a megaphone and should uneducated comments at people whether they like it or not) irks you, then wouldn't it be a bit more logical for you to complain about the people inviting her? I don't pretend to (and never have) have enough expertise on the girl and her personal knowledge levels...but then again, i'm not the one criticising and taking a pop at a kid so don't actually have to back up my criticisms with anything. What are you backing up yours with, other than her age?
No you Aren't. Not even close. Here are those points that are directly relevant to the thread: EDIT - Just seen you've replied - I'll deal with it in due course I'm off to the beach.* Banks, Whom I neither like nor particularly dislike, should be able to crack a joke independently of hypersensitive lunatics crying and trying clamp down on freespeech because it's mean and offensive.
If anyone is going to clamp down on him, it should be done through the medium of discussion, not banning. Because all you're left with after that is a platform full of people that just agree.
I like her less than I like him, She's not qualified to the audiences she's granted because she's a kid. She can defend herself WITHOUT Lucas blarting.
The bit you don't get, and I don't hold out much hope for you getting it here either: The thread is a critique of banning because mean things which have been said as A JOKE. Shit it may or may not be. But it is a joke. Thousands of people clubbing together to ban a person for a joke... It's a bit silly
What does it have to do with me? Jokes on twitter have nothing to do with Lucas, It's pointless her asking for the ban and not her place to do it.Respond to them. As for this, You could've just started with that line of enquiry couldnt you, Much more relevant: What is your problem exactly with a young person having an opinion on a subject that will directly effect her (and her peers') futures? Problem with her having opinions? Fucking none. 0. She needs to research and take time to know what she's on about before broadcasting those views to the world! It's impossible to cite her academic achievements because she hasn't finished school... Sending a few essays off to different competitions does nothing to change that. If the fact she speaks publcily at events she is INVITED to (she doesn't just turn up with a megaphone and should uneducated comments at people whether they like it or not) irks you, then wouldn't it be a bit more logical for you to complain about the people inviting her? Both of these actions need criticism. Why is she being invited? Because she's super passionate? Why her? Why not somebody equally passionate but capable of articulating the complex areas that the world needs to hear? If I were to be invited to a conference on Nuclear physics I wouldn't accept the invitation because I know so little about that anything I have to say on that subject would be damaging. My lack of knowledge on that subject would catastrophic. enlighten us with your in-depth knowledge of her, her life, her total knowledge on the subject if you can? Feel free mate, crack on....or are you criticising her without actually having a clue? Not too hard actually, She's spoken (And not too badly for her age) on sustainable development as a combination of issues with a broad brushstroke as a problem. But there's no solution other than "pay attention to what scientists are already saying" In fact the only words of her own are this sort of level - "you're shitting on our future" and nonsense platitudinal cack in the same vein. Take this snippet for instance; She introduces issues that literally everybody is aware of in the academic community. She then claims emergency, house on fire etc and moves to emotive arguments. And what are her actual solutions? Leaders should "act." Which is exactly the level of the argument you'd expect from a 16 year old. Because to be circular - she doesn't have the skill or expertise to A. Articulate the cost/benefit of each World leaders action and B. Her own solution. Parliament already has an APPG on Cliamte Issues, So let me ask you, What does she add? www.policyconnect.org.uk/appccg/homeIn a speech she ends thus: "Some people have chosen not to come here today, some people have chosen not to listen to us, and that is fine, we are after all just children. You don't have to listen to us, but you do have to listen to the United science, the scientists. And that is all we ask, just unite behind the science!" Again, who doesn't unite behind science. She adds nothing other than being a face. So what the fuck is the point of her?? The stats all exist. We've been saying it for fucking years. All she's good for is skipping school, getting her moron soap dodging conscientious work-objector mates to glue themselves to my fucking train and trying to guilt people into being vegan. Fuck it off. Dismiss her all you like. People are watching her and listening to her. I can only assume that your response suggests you feel somewhat threatened by her? Running off the football forum and getting all shouty. Get yourself on TV and make your points to a global audience.

Greta is from Sweden. Greta is not autistic in any way and has not Asperger's syndrome. She's just swedish.😁
Her mother is fabulous opera singer Malena Ernman. Her father is Svante Thunberg, actor and author. Her grandfather is Olof Thunberg, famous actor and director.
Greta is right about the climate, it's urgent. In 20-50 years hundreds of millions of people will start to walk from the southern parts of the globe through Europe up north, because all is dried out then - if nothing is done. The global warming has never acted in this rapid way in such a short time space, even if it has been cycles before.
Already now, some lakes have been replaced by deserts, and hundreds of species are dead and gone in an unnatural forced way. Only yesterday here there was a program about Kazakstan on tv, and one manufacturer of plastic and its consequences - one! You should see it.
So apart from developing aeroplane engines, the big challenge is to make China (with their population's needs to quickly reach western world material standard) and the developing countries above all, to change how they deal with garbage. The seas, lakes, the oceans are no dumps.
Aaron Banks obviously made a prick comment. But I don't like censorship.
In Sweden they're duscussing a huge "cotton tax", since apparently cotton is an enormous environment waster (I had no idea about this), making it in practice impossible to buy it (rising prices). I had no idea polyester was a better choice.

It's far less damaging for the environment than a plane... Which is the point. An argument based on 'if it's not ZERO carbon then she's no better than us!' is dumb. Keep your head buried in the sand mate. It's easier to deal with real world problems in there.

If people want to know about climate change, they should listen to the entire departments in the UN that exist to work out the huge problems that each course of potential might have before acting. Thunberg is not an expert. Passionate she may be, but she knows nothing. Worse role models? Yep, Far worse, Heart in the right place? Probably. Does she know what she's on about? Absolutely not. And is that based on your expert knowledge of climate change, her life and the knowledge she has....or is it simply a grumpy old fucker who refuses to believe a 16 year old may know more than he does? Whether you like it or not, she has become well known for being an activist and has a great deal of influence with her peers regarding a subject that too many simply bury their head in the sand over (over 1 million kids went on strike from school to promote climate change awareness which was solely her idea and endorsed by the UN secretary General), the UN asked her to speak at the climate change summit last year (but of course you know better than them, she's just a silly schoolgirl isn't she?)....OPEC actually described her as the "greatest threat to the fossil fuel industry" (i'm gonna take a stab in the dark they probably know a bit more than you about the industry, her knowledge and consequently her influence), and some of the Norwegian parliament nominated her for a Nobel Peace prize
It's her (and her peers) that are one way or the other going to HAVE to sort this mess out that we (and those who have gone before us) have created. Why the hell shouldn't she have an opinion on it? You're the one sitting on your sofa watching telly not giving a shit and moaning about those that actually have something about them to get off their arse and do something, and all you do is whine about them for being not qualified or not expert enough. At least they're fucking engaging and trying to make a difference instead of blarting on the Oatcake about it's all so unfair, she has no right etc. etc. You sound like the kind of fucking dinosaur this world will be all the better for when you've gone. Moan about kids doing nothing nowadays and then whinge like fuck when they don't "know their place" as kids when they do actually do something. Do you live in the fucking 19th century..."speak when you're spoken to kids"
Great Post mate... And fully representative of some posters in this thread.

In any case, pretty pathetic of the climate change deniars to hijack a thread and use it to beat Thunberg, when the OP related to Lucas and Banks.

It wasn't a joke, even a shit joke, he just mentioned that boats can have tragic accidents at this time of year. Not good against an autistic girl, whatever the circumstances. I'm not defending Lucas here, I can't stand the woman. You'd be up in arms if somebody insinuated your children could die in an accident wouldn't you? She's got Aspergers Syndrome (like Chris Packham.) If she was my daughter I'd be extremely proud of her and wouldn't want a fat cunt like Banks taking the piss. Which is of the autism spectrum

You hope to see the death of a schoolgirl who's on the autistic spectrum (or any schoolgirl for that matter) that hasn't actually done anything wrong or any harm to anyone? Stay classy eh fella! What the fuck is wrong with people nowadays
Im obviously taking the piss but the fact that people are so eager to devote themselves to an autistic schoolgirls rhetoric is beyond dumb. Shes a political pawn in times of who can out do-good everyone else.. Strange for a bit of a piss take hoping somebody dies, maybe lower it a bit to a pooh bucket problem ... I don't think people are devoted to her rhetoric, most sensible people already know the issues and have their own ideas, she started the school kid strikes which made headlines and people are using that to get the message out to the ignorant, or the ones who don't understand or are deniers. Back in the 70's I remember my granddad telling me that the likes of deodorant was killing the planet, thought he was a bit out there at the time as he liked a few beers, but he was right, we had started to destroy the ozone layer and nobody was listening until it almost got too late, a bit like now with the climate emergency.

I'm not mate I do my bit but I hate being preached to by sanctimonious hypocrits who judge and chastise because I won't accept their view. I do my bit but I'm making a point they preach and abuse but in reality they use plastic, use oil, use airplanes, use cars all kinds of things that they say we're a disgrace to use ourselves. I agree and I'm outraged at plastic pollution in the seas and ocean's but I doubt too many hypocritical people on here dont use it mate BUT they then lable because it suits Foster is the main culprit he has a view on everything but he's a hypocrite so excuse me if I don't take any advice from the likes of him. Being abusive and accusing and belittling is pathetic keyboard evangelists but in reality it's just a platform to make themselves feel superior. I won't accept that kind of person because they are easily exposed for what they are...

How would you tell any of these has a disease? It isn't a disease mate. I work with people on the autistic spectrum which includes Aspergers. Most people with it seem a little bit 'detached' from others and lack a bit of social empathy. They aren't really affected by what other people think and react differently to criticism than we do. Obsessive compulsive disorder is common to most people with Aspergers to different degrees. The first time I saw and heard Greta Thunberg I knew she had it, that's one of the reasons she's so different to most girls her age, and is probably obsessively concerned about climate change.
