When we played Besiktas In the Europa League, I remember thinking that I had never been in such a dilapidated stadium, yet with such a fantastic atmosphere. Best of all was its fabulous location - just a stone's throw from the shore of the Bosphorus at the foot of a hill leading up to the old city centre of Istanbul. Now the old dilapidated BJK İnönü Stadium has been replaced by a stadium worthy of its setting. Although its capacity is only just over 40,000, tonight's super cup between CHelsea and Liverpool is being played in a stadium I would love to visit one day - preferably following the mighty Potters on their next tour of Europe! They'd better get a move on - I'm not getting any younger. It will be interesting to see if the locals can replicate the fantastic atmosphere they showed in that pile of slag which was their old stadium. I've never heard a crowd like it - each stand had its own "conductor" making sure the fans all sang from the same hymn sheet. A magic memory of happy days as a Stokie.

We fully earned their respect with our own attempts at an atmosphere and they remember well our own mental for ric's goal.

That mental would of paled into significance 30 secs later if his lob straight from the kick off had not hit the bar ...that would of been carnage

We would had an "interesting" walk back up the hill to Taskim Square if we would have won that night.

Fantastic two nights in Istanbul that will never be forgotten Quite frankly the result was an irrelevance.
Is the new stadium on the same site ???

To be honest it would have been a disgrace NOT to build it on the same site. I can't imagine a better place for a stadium - even better than Trentham Lakes.

Never been to Istanbul but the most scenically nice stadium I have ever been to is Molde FC, located on the edge of a fjord in Norway.
Search Aker Stadium Molde on google maps satellite view.

Istanbul must be ace. Football and brilliant food. Went last year, with the exchange rate the way it is you can live like a king there. Delicious doner kebabs on street corners for 60p.

Sadly I didn't have the money to go back then. From what everyone on here is saying though it's definitely putting Istanbul on my list of cities to visit.

You are allowed out for a few minutes if you want a smoke. Perhaps Besiktas allowed you out for a few minutes of you had to drop your fudge.
