I remember commenting at one of Ryan’s early games, might even have been his first, at Ninian Park when he also scored that a new young teenager had the confidence to marshal the defence and tell more senior pros what to do. It was the same tonight. Collins didn’t just wear the armband, he led. It was a fascinating decision by the manager which no one predicted. I think Collins is an outstanding prospect. If he continues like this I fear we may only see him for one season before a big money move to a top club. Whenever I have seen him, especially at u23 level where you can properly hear him. He is the gobbiest, confident 18 year old I've ever seen. He garners respect of players 10-15 years older than himself. He is a proper leadership figure who transcends his age with ease. The more he plays the better he will get. Just play him now permanently in his preferred role.

I have read numerous times on here that Jones is a coward & has an agenda against Collins, that he would be 4th choice after the signing of CCV & we would likely never see him again? Surely i have read this wrong, he cant be captain hahahaha Good luck to you NC He's by far and away one of the most vocal players I've ever seen for his age. He will relish telling Lindsay and CCV how to get in position. I just hope it works out for him and he gets a clean sheet. He has absolutely no fear this youth. All of this post was correct.

And he was the only leading in that game. And agreed. It’s why we have to play him and go up. Do that and we’re set.

Jones seems to be managing our young players well. They will all get game time throughout the season. This would have been a great experience for Collins to be captain tonight amongst some solid professionals which he would have learned from too. How many managers would do that? Jones has a system which looks good for future generations, and talented young players will be queuing up to come here.

Is Collins today our youngest captain? Yes. There were no younger captains today.

Sorry to disappoint you, sunshine. I've been watching him since his Cherry Orchard days (when he played a few time against my boy). That was a good standard, but he was head and shoulders above everyone. As a life-long Stoke fan, I was ecstatic when he joined, and have been telling people about him since.
Being realistic, he will outgrow us pretty quickly, and I'd be surprised if he is not with one of the top six clubs within the next two years.

It is a long time since I have been so excited by such a young prospect. I fist saw him at Middlesbrough last season when he quietly went about his business, but I was struck by him in the QPR match on how self confident he was and he seems to have "filled out". I felt for him when they scored their second goal and feared it would set him back. But nothing of it, he is a massive prospect. I hope the club can hold onto him long enough for us get real value out of him on the pitch and win something.

That's the Catch 22 though, isn't it? The more we play him, the quicker he leaves.

I'm just being realistic. Only the innocent would believe that he is not being looked at already. I expect that clubs are already what Collins will be like at, say, 25. If he can stay healthy, he will be an absolute monster by then. Sadly though, not with us. At least I will always have the pleasure of watching him play for my national side for the next fifteen years.

Time wise I’m a bit behind you, I first saw him play for the Republic in the Euros and he was awesome then ! I know he’s already been looked at by Liverpool, but more worryingly some of the big European clubs have him on their radars, P.s the rumours about the United/Fletcher link was all paper talk and was generated by the Stoke end ?

No. This boy is going to be a big, big star, if he can stay healthy. When was the last time you heard of an eighteen-year-old (!) (and only JUST eighteen) CENTRE-HALF (!!) CAPTAIN (!!!) At this level, that's insane, if you really think about it. Consider any eighteen-year-old that you know - brother, cousin, nephew, friend - and imagine him as captain of a professional football club (albeit for one game). It's absolutely bonkers.
All we can do is enjoy him while we have him, and then wait for the inevitable auction when the big clubs swarm.

We’ve got to maximise the game time and that will maximise the money. There’s no point hiding him.

In a world where Adam Webster has recently been sold for over £20m, we should be getting an eye watering amount for him in the next 12-24 months.

That's the Catch 22 though, isn't it? The more we play him, the quicker he leaves. If you’ve got a good player on your hands, they should play as many minutes as possible. If he plays well, the team does well and he might move on for a big fee... that’s football. The alternative is not play him, he gets pissed off, demands to leave anyway but we don’t get as big a fee for him.
