Mum used to persecute me with it when I was a kid but as I've grown up I've come to appreciate it, I only know a few from memory if anyone's got any to recommend

Absolutely imperious BJR. I recall the Independent running a series by Richard Williams? entitled the 'Lives of the great songs,' which noted that Oliver Stone employed the song in 'Platoon' as he wanted a record to signify,at an instant, the humanity that was missing from the troops' hellish existence in the jungles of Vietnam,it positively drips soulfulness and longing.

Simon In my teen/ twenties years Elvis ( who in my opinion is very soulful in his ballads/ gospel) was having a lean/ films ( actually extremely successful in Hollywood) period so my favourite music was Motown particularly at the Place and Heavy Steam Machine ( I think Harryburrows was banned from there) with a dabble in Northern Soul.

I love all Motown Stuff. Had tickets for Motown Musical at Plymouth Theatre Royal tonite but have been up Hospital all day being pumped with chemo. Mrs got the date wrong when buying the tickets so gave them to my daughter and her friend. Big shout for some unsung Motown stars and songs.....The Contours with Just a Little Misunderstanding and Edwin Starr with Way Over There. Undertones of Northern Soul with both of those. Can’t do the song links as listening to game on Signal 2.
Some Northern Soul stuff possibly Motown

Had rare duodenal cancer which was removed by resection in March. Now having chemo until November to mop up any lingering cancer cells. Lost over 2 stone so pasties are going down well couple of times a week plus Mrs Lawrie's chocolate sponge cake and jam rolly poly.

Great post. Love those older kind of unsung Motown Artists. A lot of the older Motown made it to the Northern Soul circuit.
