If Wales are the best team in the world, Jeremy Corbyn's Chief Rabbi. Big hitters back for France Oh they'll beat France because France are awful. But if Wales are the best team in the world I'm a Spaniard.

Yes - a great game of rugby. I thought the defences were both superb. I fully expected a shed load of penalties in the last quarter - that there were hardly any is down to two disciplined defences and the game was better to watch as a result.

Japan rewarded with a game against South Africa. We can obviously write that one off as Japan have got no chance of beating South Africa in a World Cup.

I think I'll spend the rest of the afternoon remembering how sympathetic the jocks were when I lived there and England suffered a rugby or football defeat. That and laughing my bollocks off

So on to the Q-F's - I think the winners will be
England v Aus - England to win (hopefully but we need to improve) NZ v Ireland - NZ to win Wales v France - Wales to win Japan v SA - SA to win

I tipped SA before the start of the tournament but I'm surprised by people writing Japan off.

I tipped SA before the start of the tournament but I'm surprised by people writing Japan off. I think SA will beat Japan. I've only discounted Japan because I don't think that they can keep on surprising every team, although today their attacking play was superb in the first half, and some of their defending in the second half was fantastic, but then they were only playing Scotland. SA are a different level. I suppose on a good day they could possibly beat SA, and I also wouldn't be surprised if the Aussies beat England. Some of our play has been very sloppy and we really need to step it up against the Aussies if we are to progress. A S-F against the All Blacks could well be our limit. Hopefully Eddie is well and truly on the case.

I'm a very casual Rugby Union watcher (6 nations, WC and Lions)
However after watching most of the Japan game today I was super impressed with how quick they play and their handling.
Watching England, we must be viewed as one of the worst teams to watch for a neutral. Big, slow fuckers just constantly grinding away.
For any big Rugby buffs out there is there any reason we dont toss it about with speed ala NZ, Japan etc???

It all depends on how the South Africans handle the first half onslaught. Stay within a score then they should come back strong but I'm fairly confident in saying Japan will be up at half time. In all honesty, every game is a toss up and I wouldn't be surprised by any result. SO glad I'm off work to witness it though, can't wait š

Percentage rugby, if you will.

I tipped SA before the start of the tournament but I'm surprised by people writing Japan off. They look a very good team. Great to watch. They are obviously being expertly coached. Surely must only be a matter of time before they're playing in the rugby championship with New Zealand, Oz, SA and the Argies. They deserve the opportunity to get better.

No way should Japan continue to be treated as a tier 2 side. What they need now is regular games, year in year out, against the top teams. If they get that, who knows how high they can rise in the rankings. For a start the home countries should invite them to the UK next autumn - although I suspect that the autumn program has already been set in stone. If the program is already fixed then a Barbarians v Japan game at Twickenham would generate a lot of interest.

We (England) did play Japan at home recently, although it was our second/third string if my memory is correct, so probably didn't give them the respect they deserve. I think Japan have made it now anyway, the only way is up.

As an aside, the crowds at the RWC in Japan have been fantastic. The Qatar (football) World Cup is going to look very shoddy by comparison - especially if the World Athletics championship crowds are anything to go by.

The noise the Japanese fans made at the end yesterday was unreal.
Not as good as Stoke fans against Citeh in 2008 though š

Regardless of the fact that Qatar should never had it the World Cup will attract thousands of fans from around the world. It has a bigger pull than the world athletics. The Qatar World Cup will succeed despite all the controversy in the build up and I include the construction of stadia that will probably remain empty afterwards

Well done Japan. They clearly had a plan against Scotland and it worked well. They disrupted Scotland's scrum brilliantly when the Scots might have expected to steam-roller them in all the forwards play. Brilliant defence from both teams too, as many have already said. It was a great match to watch as a neutral.
Wales will take some beating. I don't think they're the best team all-round, but their second row is the best in the world in my opinion, and everything positive they do feeds from them.
England v the Crims I can see being a glut of penalties, tactical kicking and generally a poor match to watch as far as spectacle and running rugby goes. However, I won't care as long as we beat the broad-arrow gits.
