The Charlton keeper was better. The qpr keeper was better. That's not going to do wonders for confidence. And both Charlton and QPR defences were more effective and established One of Charlton´s established back four was released by Bristol Rovers over the summer. One of QPR´s back four was allowed to leave Brentford over the summer. That both these relatively new, budget build defences were more effective than ours says more about our recruitment and coaching than it does about our keeper´s form. Our defence yesterday has been together for a large chunk of pre season: it featured CBs and a RB who have a cost a fortune by Championship standards and a LB who our manager was keen to get in from a Premier League club rather than play an established Premier League, Dutch international who had played nearly 200 times for SCFC. I like Jack Butland and think he is still a decent keeper but I don´t think we can really make excuses for his last two performances.

I remember not too long back when £30m was seen as barely enough to prise him off us... Must be halved at least by now.
I hope Davies is decent because Butland’s mistakes this season so far appear to be costing us.

I read today that Stoke want £32m for him..............deluded! Southgate must be thinking very hard about dropping him if he's seen the recent clangers.

Replace him.
He won't even get in the England team now.
Pitchford, Heaton and Pope in front of him.

People forget that if great saves were counted as goals...he would be one of our best goalscores

In that 1st full season he was phenomenal. Up to the England injury he was one of the best keepers in the country. Since coming back from injury he keeps getting worse and he's at the point now where he needs dropping. He's not even average any more

Still time for European team to come in for him Then we’ll be moaning They won’t be in for him and I for one am glad. He needs to blow the cobwebs away and then he will be the asset he has always been. Perversely he needs a game where we are under the cosh and makes some saves- yes he has made some mistakes, but that tends to happen in games where you have little or nothing to do.

I agree, it isn’t helping with our fans sitting right behind him for 45 minutes each game He can’t avoid hearing all the grief aimed at him and the rest of the team

He is somehow going to become the high profile scapegoat for our dismal failings.
If we dont somehow manage to get a win next weekend, things could start to get very messy.

You do know that 3 of the Charlton defence are new . Only the keeper and Purrington appeared at Wembley in the play off final Most of the 24 if not all have made numerous signings and changes. It's a cop out to suggest they are established.

He needs a move and a new challenge.
He's not motivated here any more.

He's made 2 mistakes, he's still our best keeper. We're a championship team, stop expecting world beating players. don't see other teams keepers making blatant mistakes though

Plus the fact he hasn't got a clue how to save a penalty,if he had managed to save a few and got us some important points,we would be more than happy to forgive the odd mistake !!!

I'd get rid of Butland ASAP arrange a January move for him. He should of saved that shot yesterday but he wasn't the only one to blame that shit show of a defence in front of him could have easily avoided concedeing those 3 goals they were so static we may as well had statues in defence no one even attempted to close down the player in possession or block the shot.

My impression after watching both games live in England was that Jack really should have done better with QPR's first and the same with Charlton's first as well. Does he struggle to keep focused!?

Reference to his ego is a disgrace. What exactly has he done to warrant that criticism?
Having met him he was generous And professional. He showed no sign of ego. As for his preference to play in the Premier League. He should have that desire. He's an England international now about to play his second season in the Championship. He has not to my knowledge tried to force a move or misbehaved in anyway.
He's made some mistakes. Have some perspective. And personal comments about his ego are unfounded and frankly pathetic.

He is here untill Jan.at the earliest,so he needs to get his head round it,if he wants back in the Premiership, then he needs to start playing like a premiership keeper.

He’s a model pro - can’t believe the vitriol aimed at the last survivor of our most successful period in living memory. His career has been fucked over by a bizarre injury playing in pointless England friendly and a club that has gone to the dogs in the meantime with a shower of shite and inexperience in front of him - he can be forgiven the odd wobble and has saved us many times more than he’s cost us......

He's got us plenty of important points penalty saves or not, but he does need taking out of the firing line for a bit, I'd take him out of the squad for a few weeks, let him clear his head and take the pressure off and ease him back in, there's clearly something going on with him.

I'd go one step further. I'd pay for him and his immediate family to go away somewhere hot, sunny and secluded, away from all external influences, for a few weeks away from all transfer and agent nonsense to clear his head, have a good chat to family and come back firing. His move hasn't happened and isn't going to for at least another 5 months so he needs to get back to his best form for him to stand a chance of getting that move, or at the least back there with us. He really is a Premier League goalkeeper but he needs to show it now more than ever.

Give Davies a couple of goes in between the sticks. If and when Butland leaves Davies will be our new #1. Butlands head must be a total mess at the minute. He has been touted around for a few transfer windows and no one wants to know.
