Fans rimming average players can be a symptom of promotion-tinted glasses, so I’m taking those with a lot of salt.

Reminds me of the Ricardo Fuller departure. Hopefully he proves to have more in the tank than Ric did.. www.s24su.com/forum/index.php?threads/thank-you-mark-duffy.74144/Been my favourite player these past 3 years, so wish him nothing but the best. We all pay our money and take our chance, so only time will tell if it's the right move for both him and us. Time doesn't stand still though, so onwards and upwards. UTB
Will forever be remembered by anyone who watched him here. I'd never seen anyone play football the way he does in a Blades shirt. Before he arrived it was a forlorn hope to have someone who could do what he does. We all know that the midfield trio of him, Coutts and Fleck, more than everything but Chris Wilder himself, marked the beginning of this new, successful Sheffield United. But without Duffy's proper football brain and seemingly effortless mastery in his specific role, it could not have happened. He was a huge catalyst.
Thank You Mark Duffy. A joy to watch.
Wonderfully gifted player whose reading of the game was never fully appreciated.
That goal was poetry in motion. Hope he does it again at the Sty this season. For any Stoke fans viewing this play to his strengths at number 10 and you've got a quality player.
Enjoyed watching you Mark. Must be a nightmare to play against. Loved your twists and turns and turning defenders inside out. I’ll miss watching you week in week out. One of my favourite ever Blades players.
Feel sad that he’s left...one of my favourite Blades player in the past 40 plus years.
If he ever returns......he’ll get an amazing great reception from us Blades.....he may be gone but never forgotten.
I’m sad. Echo what others have said; one of my favourite ever United players in what’s been my favourite ever era following the club. Will be weird seeing him turning out for Stoke.
He's been an absolute pleasure to watch these last three seasons, someone who got my arse off my seat more than any other player.I'd say he's been my favourite of the Wilder era,no mean achievement considering the quality we've seen in our team.I really do think he was capable of offering us something in The Premier League but we'll never know.Shame it ended this way but we move on regardless.
Mark Duffy,I wish you every success at Stoke...You are a legend that a generation of Blades will remember with fondness. My avatar is redundant now..Will I change it? Will I f**k,best midfield I ever saw.Good luck with your new venture
I hope he gets on well at Stoke and I hope they realise how to use him properly rather than sticking him out of position then whinging that he's crap.
Saddest transfer news for many a year - Stoke City fans don't have a clue what a gem they have got.
sad thing is i don't think they will see the best of him, his place was here, it was his time with us, will they play a system that suits him, i doubt it very much
can see him being stuck out on the wing, where he played most of his career, but can't see him being as effective in that role, i hope they use him right, i hope he finishes his career on a high with them
i'm gutted he has missed this chance to play in the prem with us
as stated by others, i feel like a little of me is lost today Been watching the Blades for 45 years and he’s up there on my list of favourite players. Feel a bit sad he’s gone....he’s what I call a “proper footballer”....really wish him the best of luck.
Other than Stoke there are no winners in this situation. Duffy would have been a good squad player this season but Wilder had no choice.
Mark Duffy. One of the cleverest footballers I have ever seen, epitomising our journey; written off, forgotten about, and suddenly without any warning, playing the best football of his career. Retaining possession, skipping past his man, recycling the ball, seeing the pass that others couldn't, playing the triangles in the corner, he was our most instrumental player. Our rise has been built on a tight knit squad, familiar faces, now fan favourites - present week in, week out. Freeman, Fleck, Coutts, Basham, O'Connell, Stevens, Sharp, latterly Norwood, Baldock, Henderson, Egan, the list goes on.
Duffy was the one that made the system tick. We looked a better team with him on the pitch. Only Billy Sharp leaving would have upset me more.
Feel gutted , my favourite player and a pleasure to watch , hand on heart not sure how much game time he would have got but to be honest I didn’t care !! I loved watching him and just wish he could have had TIL at least January to either see if he could cut it or at least have a chance to play in the top flight ! Many many great memories and for that I thank him ! Might even buy one of those dodgy Facebook kits with his name on and send it him for when he plays with his kids in the garden ! Good luck and thanks for the memories Duffs , you were a good un !!
If you give somebody a 2 year contract you expect to get 2 years out of then. If you doubt they can give you two years you don’t give it them. The club doesn’t owe him a living. He’s been a great servant for the club and the club have paid him well for it.

Fans rimming average players can be a symptom of promotion-tinted glasses, so I’m taking those with a lot of salt. I would guess(!) that 80% of the posters on todays varying transfer threads are judging players that they have rarely if ever seen play (other than media highlights). The main basis for their pessimism seems to be either that they are not all potential-only 24 year olds or that the poster has never heard of them.

That’s the one, he’s knocked around at this level for quite a while and by all accounts done very well. Perfect Wilder signing, has the versatility to play in that unique system and seems a pretty intelligent operator.

Hence why I think his agents tried to get him abroad away from it all. He’s had a fantastic array of clubs.

As opposed to Spurs, Porto, Real Madrid, and Galatasary, look how the last lot turned out.
Our demise has come from signing players thinking they're too good for us, the side that got us promoted consisted of players similar to the ones we've signed.
Sheffield United are a Premier League club just promoted, we finished in the bottom third in the championship.
I think that's what needs to sink in. A crowd that have become entitled and the twelfth man for the opposition.
Whether Jones is the answer we'll find out in due course, but signing a player influential in getting a team with far less names promoted, he'll do for me.

This has been a classic case of our collective aloofness our fanbase has shown since dropping out of the Premier League. The Championship has been absolutely full of innovation and talent for years, we've just not been exposed to it. Look at some of the players that have come out of it in recent years who virtually no one would have heard of had we signed them, but who would have been fantastic acquisitions in key areas the likes of Maddison, Brooks, Mepham etc.
Mark Duffy is a player who has been operating brilliantly in a team producing way more than the sum of its parts and he's been absolutely integral to everything that team has done right. But as a fanbase we seem conditioned to knee jerk wikipedia searches saying he's a winger and simply looking at his age. Like it or not, the days of us signing bigger names are for the time being gone and we must diversify our approach and bring in players who can do a great job for us not those who simply live on a name. On loan, there is absolutely nothing to dislike about this and for people shocked that we're having to loan players from the Blades rather than the other way round it's not at all surprising when they've been more intelligent as a football club in all facets than us for nearly half a decade.
Fun fact: The Wilder era started off with 3 defeats out of 4 in League 1.
