A fight for their place? Edit: sorry you don't like competition for places I retract my above statement. There’s a fight and then there’s having 4 players for 1 position. Which is just stupid. I know it's not fair....

If he can control a game and play creative passes, then I’m in.

This is blades fans this:
"Can’t see us losing one of our best players unless maybe Liverpool or Everton have come in with a 50 mill bid and he wants to be closer to home. We need him to show the younger lads how to be Mark Duffy before he is done. "
"Joe Allen and Mark Duffy in the same midfield? Would be a lovely side to watch."
"Stoke on loan sounds more like doghouse than a good move.
What a shit situation for everyone except Stoke."
Nice tbh.

I've seen him play deep a lot Bayern, I firmly believe he would be one of the two in the middle of the diamond. Allen putting the work in as box to box, Etebo holding mid and Duffy as the creative outlet imo has potential. Clucas as an option but preferably left wing back for me. That’d be interesting! I'm not convinced he has the legs for attacking mid, he's not really immensely strong either and I feel like those central roles would allow him time and space to control the game a bit. He has good movement too and it'd take better advantage of his runs from deep. He won't score goals for us, but he could be the person to stop us being overrun. Have to say I'm still concerned about our lack of a DM, but you of all people will like Duffy I'm quite confident of that.

We are going to have to get a lot out of the door if we're going to meet the manager' s target of a small lean squad.
How many new players is it for this window?

He sounds good. But what the fook does this mean for Ince and Verlinden? I've seen him play deep a lot Bayern, I firmly believe he would be one of the two in the middle of the diamond. Allen putting the work in as box to box, Etebo holding mid and Duffy as the creative outlet imo has potential. Clucas as an option but preferably left wing back for me. Could this have been the masterplan all along, waiting on getting more for midfield to release Clucas. Would explain why he went to left-back on Saturday and there were comments last year saying he has all the attributes to play there but we saw him as a midfielder. Maybe not now?

I work with a big Sheff Utd fan. Season ticket holder for years.
Just asked him what he knew about Mark Duffy.
He asked why and he seemed absolutely gutted when I told him he might be signing for.
Says hes an absolutely quality player.
They love him. Brilliant with the ball at his feet.
Best position number 10.

That would be an interesting prospect. Aye, a lot of talk about him as a winger but my understanding is he has been misused out there a lot over his career and Wilder got him playing centrally and he is a wholly different player... It will be interesting to see how we use him, but it will be somewhere in the middle that's for certain! I think Jones will come good if we are patient, but I'll be damned if I'm not gutted we didn't go for Wilder. Straight talking, not a blemish on his CV (admittedly same with Jones) and plays mouthwatering football. I've probably been to more United games than Stoke in the last couple years, thank god made me very envious I have to say.

It's strange that Duffy took so long to be anything other than a journeyman from the look of that CV.

If he still had something to offer a promoted side last season then he's clearly got something about him, even if he is well aged. Could be a smart move. You'd imagine it pushes Verlinden totally out of the picture though.

Imagine being linked with Mark Duffy and thinking that’s a bad signing... Excellent business if we get that sorted. He is a very good player, but we will have 4 number 10’s, and he is soon to be 34.

His stats are outrageous in relation to his profile, but if he signs it's pretty much a 'one shot at it' type of signing. It's pretty much nailed on that at 34-35 next season, he'll need to be replaced anyway. In the unlikely event we were to be promoted virtually everyone bar Butland and a few of the young players would need to be replaced. Virtually all the squad are not good enough for the Prem. The priority is to try and qualify for the play-offs; top 2 is dreaming.

Good player at this level. Loan deal too which is best as he’s 33. Just not sure where this leaves Tom Ince
