Half wages and small loan fee (if true) makes it sound a bit better. I do hope he has a stormer of a season but I'm so fucking depressed over Stoke now that I instantly expect him to be complete shit.

So looks like we are not getting Gayle but Scott instead. Is he any better than what we have?

He may be the next Steino- the only downside would be sending Campbell out on loan and retaining Afobe.

I think I might go against the grain here. Looking at his wiki page he had a 1 goal in 2 record for rochdale before moving to brentford where he had a better goal record, he moved to villa and it hasnt happened for him but we arnt villa, we're playing a different shape. Watching his goals vid I can see why he might appeal to Jones, he gets into good positions which Afobe lacks at, but then he looks clinical in front of goal. A lot of his goals seemed to be supplied through the middle which we intend to do, he finds that yard of space. Not overly overwhelmed at first, but looking at it I'm slightly optimistic now. Only thing is he's from Salford and I don't like mancs so he had better be good

He's fucking rapid, like properly fucking rapid.
Much more measured signing than Gayle who was far from the silver bullet to save us.

These are what has stopped him scoring as many as he can. 17/8 was Injury affected, yet in his Stop Start season he scored 9 goals 18/19 due to the injuries he wasn't included and farmed back to Sheff Utd who included him in their promotion winning team (credentials right there) and he bagged 2 goals. Overall in the championship he has played 97 games and bagged 30 goals That would mean he averages 14 goals in a 46 game season. 14 goals.. I'd take that right now!

Not quite Dwight Gayle is it? Tough to know what to think. He was sought after following his Brentford spell but we’ve seen players move and fail before so you can’t completely write him off, however, I don’t think another striker lacking in goals and confidence is really what we need right now. And as others have pointed out, if it displaces Campbell then, for me, it’s a bad move. Sell Afobe or loan him out and I can more than deal with it. Bringing him in to replace Campbell though and it’s another step in the wrong direction. Another one to add to the what happened to them category. Why do we insist on adding players who last impressed 3/4 years ago and then wonder why they don’t succeed. Past success is not necessarily a guide to future success, especially if they have been rank bad/overlooked in the interim period. File Afobe/Vokes into that category. Hogan sounds a similar punt- oh look he scored 21 goals at this level 3 years ago, so what. I’d give Gregory a go before this potential millstone adds to the dirge we have.

I think he could be a good signing he’s a workhorse up front an he’s miles better than Benik can’t control a ball Afobe... hogan will be top scorer for stoke if he signs

Seems a similar player to Elliot Lee at Luton. Be interesting to see if he signs as a striker or a secondary number ten type.
For those moaning about the stature of the signing, thank the process and Gary Rowett for lumbering us with a barrel load of expensive shit we can't give away.

He's had a lot of injuries in the last few years Pretty sure that hot spell at Brentford came after his very lengthy cruciate lay-off? Yes he got injured as soon as he signed for Brentford came back, did his cruciate which is why he didn't play much for them considering how long he was there....and I think he's had more injuries since. So, he's injury prone, has an awful recent scoring record and can't score penalties, he'll fit in perfectly

Bringing him in to replace Campbell though and it’s another step in the wrong direction. I may be on my own but I'm yet to see anything impressive with Campbell at the level we want him to be at. I know little of Hogan. Wasnt he at sheff utd last season? I’m just sick of seeing Afobe wardrobe about the place with the ball bouncing off him further than where it came from. Campbell might not be the saviour but he cannot be any worse than what we’ve had for the last season and he does seem a natural finisher with pace. Hogan would get my full backing and I’m not hugely against it at all. I want a striker to score goals for Stoke and if it’s him then fucking brilliant. Even for a loan though, it’s a gamble for Jones if this guy displaces a youngster and doesn’t improve us.

How'd you go from Gayle to Hogan. 2 completely different players... Because you went from QSF allegedly being the best paid manager outside the top 6 to Paul Lambert who said himself he thought he’d never work at this level again , it’s the process and those who run it
