Im sure he said it in an interview when he first arrived saying he wasn't a fan of the system. Ah, ok. Difficult to know the context in which it was said without hearing/reading it I guess, but I don't think there are many managers that are 'fans' of it; they'd all prefer to have their own players signed up in the security of not having them recalled or losing them after a season surely? He's used the loan system plenty before though so he's clearly not totally averse to using it if he needs to. Well Bielsa, by some margin the stand out manager in this league has made 4 loan signings and about to add a fifth with the kiddie from Arsenal. It almost worked for Lampard last season who had 3 outstanding loanees as regulars. It's about loaning high quality young players looking to perform and prove a point in their career progression. Not 27 yr olds not wanted by their club.

Based on his official site signing video, it would appear Jones must have watched him the 25 times at bible class.

Now.....I’m not totally against signing Hogan, he’s done ok at this level and may well do good for us. But does any1 on here believe that he has been identified by jones as an important signing?....or more that he is available and we can get him in?

Indeed - using the loan system should be about bringing in quality players that we simply wouldn't be able to sign permanently due to our position and subsequent finances/attractiveness. (I'm not convinced that Hogan falls into that category to be honest.)

Tbf most people that follow football outside scfc should know about hogan, he was flavour of the season before moving to villa Yeah I'm surprised so many are saying they've never heard of him, couple years ago he was the in-form striker in this league. Did people not watch the Championship whilst we were playing in the Prem? Yes it is surprising, agreed. The chap that coached my son's side a couple of years ago has been a Brentford season ticket holder for many years. He rated Super Scotty Hogan. And so, presumably, did Dean Smith. The Villa bloke gives a slightly gloomier analysis above on this thread. We do whinge about our players - often with good reason - and Saturday was painful to watch. But crikey - people should cut the guy some slack. Let him lace his boots at least...

Just put that out there because, and this is completely opinionated, I don’t think jones has gone out for this signing and it’s more one that’s available and it’s this or nothing. And ultimately jones will take the flack. Signings are made by more than just the manager. And he will get bare shit if it doesn’t work

(I'm not convinced that Hogan falls into that category to be honest.) Indeed clearly Villa want to sell hence the option to buy in the deal. I guess we are not sure hence the loan rather than purchase. We were prepared to splash out on Gayle but not Hogan it seems. Doesn't bode well, but maybe he is a lucky talisman having gained promo with 2 clubs last season....could be a masterstroke by our esteemed recruitment team.

What does he offer that any of our other strikers dont Hopefully he can score 🤔 Cant keep signing strikers “ hoping they will score “ get a system in place that suits your main goal scoring threat and they will score. We sign strikers as if its a lucky fucking dip

True, I though Wimmer was a good signing so my track record of calling these things isn't ideal. Hopefully Hogan takes a good penalty. I can top that, I was the (only) fool who thought Palacios was a belter! :-) I think the majority of people thought Palacios was a superb signing at the time. I certainly did

Just text a villa mate of mine who’s son is also a scout at Brentford..... so they ve seen a bit of him. This was his reply ..... Didn't work out with us but he could be a decent player if he gets a run in team. Works hard, a bit like a lower grade, slightly slower Shane Long!

I suppose he's another warm body 'in the building' although we've got dozens of strikers, none of them ever score and I'm sure this fellas will be no different. How do we keep them all happy ?

Done deal. Paying less than a 3rd of his wages. No strings attached 1/2 his wages and 300k loan fee is what I read Was told no fee and less than third was what we negotiated. Villa happy as want him in shop window
