Did you know know a WO at Portland called Plant (or TCP as the lads called him ) probably late 80s, not so popular... I was FOST in 96-98 in Devonport but I do recall WO Plant when I did DOST on Sheffield prior to the Gulf deployment. If I recall our MEO got him removed from training us because he was upsetting the lads so much. We got Chris Harkness as replacement sea rider who was very very good. He was a complete and utter knob, I was in training and on the Southampton (briefly) with his lad, not content with being a twat to everybody else he humiliated him while he was on the throttles, his lad was an alright bloke, surprisingly. I like to think I raised his stress levels a few notches when I bumped into him again at Sultan a few years later ☺

Whatever Naval unit I was on there was always a Potteries accent aside from mine. This area punches above its weight for military service and I salute you all, past, present, and future. Haha ...when I was serving on Leeds Castle as Falklands Guard ship we often went to South Georgia to resupply the Royal Marines contingent at King Edwards Point Grytviken. Their chef was a Stokie and used to make oaties for Sunday Breakfast. If we were alongside I would always get an invite after he found out I was also a Stokie. I had a Marine seargent drill instructor from Weston Coyney during my phase one training. As we drilled with rifles around HMS Raleigh’s parade ground, I’d occasionally felt his finger go in my pocket. It was only after we finished I discovered my pocket was full of sweet wrappers and I was a mobile dustbin! It never got better for me 🤣

It was the only ship's ME Dept to get a "Good" assessment in my time as a sea rider. Their MEO was an old and bold SD who had spent his career in steam ships. He didn’t have much of a clue about gas ships and left it to his SRs. Moral to that story for sure.

For years I have attended as a member of the Cadets, and now I get to proudly return as a member of the RAF. I may be there in an unofficial capacity, but I very much can’t wait. Always a fantastic day.

Pretty sure I read a quote from you calling our forces something very close to what he claimed you said mo, I might be wrong as to the exact wording I can not find the quote and my memory is not what it was, being ex military those type of things do tend to stick in the mind.

My 2 sons and I were very dissapointed by the poor showing at the Bradford forces day. Not much going off due to the council more interested in promoting a literature festival which had actually been boycotted by 6 muslim writers/poets because it had part funding from a government counter terrorism/extremism group. Says alot really.

They don’t have the authority to spend taxpayers money like that. I mean, what does counter-terrorism have to do with literary festivals...

During school me and my mates all had a long standing obsession with Nigeria as a result of a batshit mental Nigerian Maths teacher. I used it as a username for one thing and it has since stuck.

What have many companies who sponsor football have to do with the game? Search the article up on the Bradford Telegraph and Argus newspaper to see the piece.
