All the way there to pick a prawn cocktail off the starter menu? I saw it about 25 years back, absolutely fascinating, I'd never seen bits of dead wood being sprayed by a fine mist before to keep it from getting even deader.....
It's all changed now, went a couple of years ago, you can walk along different levels looking into them. Mary rose, HMS Victory, Submarine museum, HMS Warrior, historic dockyard, etc. It's a good weekend

I'm currently sat in a cottage just south of Hereford, trip down today we called in at Stokesay castle, Ludlow, Hampton Court Castle and Gardens. Got about a 10 mile uninterrupted view in front of me. Cathedral and the mappa mundi and cider museum the next couple of days. Ross on Wye, symonds yat etc. If you want abroad, try Madrid and then spend a day in Toledo. Is that some sort of ethnic print on your shirt Northy, being reflected of the window... Yep a good spot, it is the union Jack with the word Britannia on it, from the royal yacht Britannia in Edinburgh, Which is another great weekend destination, especially in August with the tattoo and fringe on.

As you say fascinating.....by keeping those sprinklers on you can almost see those pressganged rookie sailors climbing the rigging while clinging on for grim death as the grapeshot and cannon balls tear into those salt weathered sails 😏😁 Hang on, I thought it capsized under its own weight of cannon at a bit of a garden party for Henry VIII, after never seeing live action...

Yes mate I went around that time as well looked like something dragged out of he trent and mersey Likewise harry, that was the impression I got. Must have been roughly the same time. Once you've worked out which way was 'up' with the thing. Fascinating though.

Wait till April and go to see the Dutch bulbfields if you haven't already done so - the Keukenhof Gardens are amazing. In the UK, my fave place for a break is York...... fell in love with the place nearly 40 years ago and have been back countless times & usually tie in visits with something on at the wonderful Theatre Royal, which is my favourite UK theatre. Or how about going to Portsmouth to see the Mary Rose exhibition?
All the way there to pick a prawn cocktail off the starter menu? Good one! In fact.......... Nom nom nom.......... I could just eat a prawn cocktail........

I must get on with making a trip to Canterbury. Alice Merton was doing a programme on Channel 4 about the Plantagenets in the town, it looked fabulous. Yes, I saw that prog, Fel. Very good, apart from the fact that every time she said 'Plantagenet' (which was all the time) she pronounced it 'PLA RN….tagenet' and I had to keep yelling "NO - IT'S PLAN….. tagenet". Loved the obvious mentions of Chaucer's 'Canterbury Tales' - my favourite book. Obviously heard loads of times over the years about the four knights murdering Thomas Becket, AKA Thomas à Becket, in the cathedral, but this was the first time I'd ever heard of one of them slicing the top of his head off with a sword and turning his leedle grrrrey cells into a sword kebab. Ewwww. Unpleasant!

Krakow is well worth it mate, in fact why not stick a bag on yer back and go around Europe, you have the time Nah mate not in the best of health atm nothing major just a bit of wear and tear but it's made a bit of an easy life better for me. How about the historic city of Bath, then, Frankie? Like York, there's loads of interesting stuff including a strong Roman connection: Roman Baths www.romanbaths.co.uk/
A bit more unusual is The American Museum: americanmuseum.org/about-the-museum/collections/Bath Abbey: visitbath.co.uk/listings/single/bath-abbey/
The Theatre Royal. Lots of antique shops. Sally Lunn’s Historic Eating House & Museum! York's still my fave, though.
And they have the wonderful Castle Museum and Vikings / the Jorvik Centre too. And river cruises. Oh, and I think there's also a Railway Museum!

I visit my lad in Frankfurt most months and I enjoy there, well worth a visit. Ultimately I'm a but of a lazy so and so, sun and G&T suit me fine now.

Fair enough chap, Krakow was probably my favourite out of the little tour we did, not much between them all tho. If you fancy going there I have a link to some cracking reasonably priced apartments a short walk from the centre, just pm me We're off to Krakow in September, Ely. Travelling by train as Mrs Q hates flying. Got an apartement booked already & definitely doing trips to Auschwitz & the salt mines. Any other recommendations will definitely be gratefully received. You off to Krakow, then, JD? Right. Good choice. I went in November 2006. Flew from Manchester & had about 4 days in Warsaw then took a train to Krakow for another 4 there. Very importantly, if you're thinking of doing the Salt Mines tour, make sure you're feeling fit enough at the time --- not being funny --- there's loads of steps there and folks with various aches/pains and/or temporary/permanent mobility limitations could find it very tough going. (I'm mentioning this because I think you said recently you'd been suffering with a back problem?) I stayed at the excellent Radisson Hotel (and would stay there again for their breakfasts alone, especially the little dark rye rolls), which is about a 5-minute walk from the central square, near where the Cloth Hall, a large open-ended shopping sort-of arcade is - it's full of stalls selling all sorts of merchandise. Needless to say, I loved it and shopped till I dropped and spent a small fortune on amber jewellery, gorgeous pieces being on sale all over Poland. I can tell you now, Mrs Q will definitely buy some amber jewellery. Correction: She will let you buy some for her - in fact, if you want a heap of brownie points, you suggest buying it for her first. Went to the Krakow Museum and saw da Vinci's stunning & very famous painting 'Lady with an Ermine', my most favourite ever painting, which IMO makes the crappy Mona Lisa look on a par with that painting of a green Chinese woman. Also went to an evening Chopin Piano Recital. And the food was, without exception, fabulous. Lastly, you'll never, ever, forget what you'll see on a visit to Auschwitz or the harrowing stories the guide will tell you, so take hankies, because you'll need them, but a visit there is something everyone - especially politicians - should do.

Get the ferry to Santander and head for Pamplona, during the bull run. It's an ideal area for either the Pyrenees or the Picos de Europa. An often missed part of Spain. You got a death wish, Frankie? If so, we at Chuffsons Tours have just the thing....... (PS: It's also a LOT cheaper than Dignitas if that nasty rash you mentioned doesn't clear up. PPS: Here to help.)

Cheers Murph. Yep, going in September. Going for Mrs Q's 50th for a week (her choice of destination). We'd been warned about the steps in the salt mines & Mrs Q's ankle is very suspect too (hence why we train rather than fly) but she seems to think there's a lift. It'd be a shame to have to leave her down there ;-) Especially as Micky Bubbles is playing Krakow on her birthday & she seems to think I'll not only be buying her a ticket but escorting her to the concert. And there was me planning to sneak off to a goth cafe/club I've been told about ...
My back's much better, ta. At least it is when I've had a few hours' respite in a local hostelry. The shoulder's still in bits which just means the good lady has to do all the carrying. At least that puts a limit on what she buys ;-)
Mrs Q hates amber but is very much pink sapphires & white gold. We'll have to see what the fairies bring her on her birthday.
Museum's & churches / cathedrals very much on the to-do list. I love the architecture, and it gives me a reason to rail against the greed of organised religions. Mrs Q says she's never taking me back to the Vatican again ...

Another place that you must see in Krakow is Schindler's Factory (from the film Schindler's List). It's near the town center (on the other side of the river) and gives an insight in how the Nazis set up ghettos for the Jews. That and Ausschwitz are definitely reminders of why we should never allow another war to break out.

Some of the lesser-visited destinations are cracking e.g.: Romania: Sighisoara/Brasov/Sibiu. Bosnia & Herzigovina: Mostar or Sarajevo. Croatia: Split (include a trip to at least one island). Slovenia: Piran or Ljubljana. Montenegro: Kotor. Georgia: Tbilisi. Norway: Bergen. I lived in Middlesbrough for >20 years before visiting the local Captain Cook Birthplace Museum. How many Stokies have not seen all Stoke on Trent has to offer? I lived near Apedale without visiting the mining museum for about 15 years. When I finally went, it was fantastic, particularly speaking to the volunteers there.
