My last trip was to Palermo which was great any other cracking destinations? Wait till April and go to see the Dutch bulbfields if you haven't already done so - the Keukenhof Gardens are amazing. In the UK, my fave place for a break is York...... fell in love with the place nearly 40 years ago and have been back countless times & usually tie in visits with something on at the wonderful Theatre Royal, which is my favourite UK theatre. Or how about going to Portsmouth to see the Mary Rose exhibition?

It's an interesting question and the answer depends on entirely what interests you or "floats your boat".
A big mistake a lot of people make is to overlook the obvious. So many people travel the world, but fail to visit their local attractions because they are always there and don't involve travel and staying away, which is actually a lot of the enjoyment for some people.
I lived in Middlesbrough for >20 years before visiting the local Captain Cook Birthplace Museum. How many Stokies have not seen all Stoke on Trent has to offer?
I visiting many European countries before visiting Scotland on my second honeymoon and was blown away by the scenery.

Try Ireland County Sligo and County Mayo. Not the most rated but very enjoyable. City wise Derry or Belfast, you cannot go wrong in either. I have visited most European capitals, west of Ireland beats them all.

Get the ferry to Santander and head for Pamplona, either during or after the bull run. It's an ideal area for either the Pyrenees or the Picos de Europa. An often missed part of Spain.

I am a big fan of Portugal. Both Lisbon and Porto are worth visiting. Neither is expensive when compared to most other (west) European cities and have much to offer. I think Lisbon's setting is stunning.

I don't want busy hectic places a quiet walk and a drink maybe a bite to eat easy living suits me atm back and hip problems causing me a bit of mither.

Fair enough chap, Krakow was probably my favourite out of the little tour we did, not much between them all tho. If you fancy going there I have a link to some cracking reasonably priced apartments a short walk from the centre, just pm me

Travelling by train as Mrs Q hates flying. Got an apartement booked already & definitely doing trips to Auschwitz & the salt mines. Any other recommendations will definitely be gratefully received.

I must get on with making a trip to Canterbury. Alice Merton was doing a programme on Channel 4 about the Plantagenets in the town, it looked fabulous.

Travelling by train as Mrs Q hates flying. Got an apartement booked already & definitely doing trips to Auschwitz & the salt mines. Any other recommendations will definitely be gratefully received. We went by train, overnight from Bratislava, station is in the town more or less, how long is the train journey? We did both those, enjoyed the salt mines, Auschwitz obviously not so much just something you have to do. The castle is also in the town, some good views, there's a metal dragon sculpture thing by the river/castle that 'breathes' fire every now and then, you'll see people around it. Nice upstairs cafe bar thing near there with good views of the river from the outdoor bit upstairs, the bar we liked best was this - www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g274772-d5501915-Reviews-Cafe_Philo-Krakow_Lesser_Poland_Province_Southern_Poland.htmlDidn't get out of there until 3 or 4 am one morning, some real characters in there including the campest German I've ever met and a magician that wouldn't be out of place on BGT, don't know if it's like that all the time but I was sorry we only found it the night before we moved on There's outdoor stalls/cabins and stuff and cafes/restaurants around the main square and there seems to be really good buskers everywhere. We spent most of one day trying to find the Stoke game or a place with decent enough wifi to stream the game, everybody had the Rangers Celtic game on tho, there was loads of fans of both teams around the place, obligatory stag do's and birthdays, the only slight negative of the place is the gangs of UK lads to be fair. I'm sure you'll have a great time

I'm currently sat in a cottage just south of Hereford, trip down today we called in at Stokesay castle, Ludlow, Hampton Court Castle and Gardens. Got about a 10 mile uninterrupted view in front of me. Cathedral and the mappa mundi and cider museum the next couple of days. Ross on Wye, symonds yat etc. If you want abroad, try Madrid and then spend a day in Toledo.

All the way there to pick a prawn cocktail off the starter menu? I saw it about 25 years back, absolutely fascinating, I'd never seen bits of dead wood being sprayed by a fine mist before to keep it from getting even deader.....

To my great shame Fel, I went Canterbury some years back with a mate who was living down there. Spent most of the day in pubs(that was his business at the time)& never made it to the Cathedral😔 Did go to the Goods Shed though, which was a fine eatery

As you say fascinating.....by keeping those sprinklers on you can almost see those pressganged rookie sailors climbing the rigging while clinging on for grim death as the grapeshot and cannon balls tear into those salt weathered sails 😏😁
