Is it time to start building an arc? Worst flooding I've seen on the lanes in 20 years. If Gnasher wants to go on the fields this morning I think he's going to have to swim there

It’s getting on my fucking nerves.
It’s miserable and dark for three months for winter, it’s miserable and raining for autumn, it pisses it down in Spring, the one respite is Summer, and it’s done nothing but absolutely ton it down.
Buy more pollution creating cars people and warm the planet up.

Think I'd prefer to have Sahara sand on the car rather than water.

Anyone catch one of the showers yesterday?
I was in Asda at Alsager around 5ish. Hammering down on the tin roof no-one leaving the store for the best part of 15 minutes and the rainwater looking to enter the store as I left. The roads were absolutely flooded no way the drains could cope with that deluge.

Planets fucked.

Been wondering about starting a thread about Global warming for a while.
The climate is definitely and notably changing.
It seems that we as a nation are becoming aware of it , BUT are we wasting our time when most of the major polluters on the planet continue to carry on belching out pollution in denial?
I heard a very interesting conversation between two scientists on Radio5, the other day. It would seem that the Poles,North and South, are moving and the rate of change has increased dramticly over the last couple of decades. All a bit clever for me but it was suggested that this change of magnetic field surrounding, and protecting planet earth means that we and our climate are more susceptible to the effects of Solar winds (northern lights etc).
It does make you wonder, with wild fires raging in the arctic Circle, thousands of square miles aflame in Siberia, what is going on and what IF ANYTHING we can do.
Future generations, our children, and grand children will be the ones most affected.

Building straw houses on flood plains and shaky ground etc. How much is house insurance? Oh these exempt acts of god... May we live in interesting times.

Was out surveying some of last week's flood damage in Swaledale this week. Quite staggering the amounts of soil and rubble shifted by the water, and there are still great long streaks visible on the north side of the valley where all the topsoil was washed off by water coming over Fremington Edge. I know some of the farmers affected who have been on the television; it isn't just the physical damage to the farms but the fact that all the silage and hay bales have been washed away too, so they have lost their winter feed hence must buy it in.

When I was teaching Geography, I would say to my students (in particular those who were dropping it at the end of Year 9) If there is one lesson you should take from my lessons it is this. Learn to recognise a flood plain and never buy a house built on one.

Well it's the end of summer and the fields here are saturated, the stream is running over the footbridge and it's still pissing down. At least the local reservoirs are full

I recently saw a map of the world, with country size based on the amount of pollution. The UK was bigger than the whole of South America. We still are a major polluter and much of the pollution is being belched out in denial. Edit: Actually, I can't find the map but think it was based on pollution in the past 100 years. We still pollute loads though. E.g. the amount of stuff we import is ridiculous, and adds massively to our carbon footprint.

Allowing for the fact that the BBC appears to have missed the main point of its own story, why don’t you have a look at the stats they present, then learn Polish or German, and then pop over to a few German or Polish forums and tell them about it as although you seem to be having a pop at the UK for some reason, there are much worse polluters than us not too far away. BBC LINK - Biggest PollutersThat data is only based on power stations and big manufacturers within a country, so could arguably back up my point about the amount of stuff we import, as well as showing we're not the manufacturing power we used to be.
