Coming to the end of week in North Norfolk. Absolutely loved it. If you want big dippers and kiss me quick hats then this isn’t for you. If you want big skies, flowers in the grass verges, marshes, dunes, lovely beaches and sea then it is for you.
We’re extremely amateur Twitchers, ie no clue except for a book and we’ve bickered over practically bird we’ve seen but we’ve agreed on Marsh Harriers and Reed Buntings. We’ve also seen a couple of dozen seals.
We’ll be back here for sure.

I’ve never been to that neck of the woods....always fancied it. Only been as far East as either Essex or Middlesbrough. Will have to make sure I get a week in sometime.

Moved from East Anglia a couple of years ago, I found it pretty boring to be honest, the landscape is amongst the most boring I've encountered and the locals weren't exactly welcoming by and large.
There's a cxouple of good spots here and there like there is anywhere but mostly it bores me shitless, maybe I like city life too much.

I've spent a few long-weekends over that way but find South Lincolnshire, Cambridgshire and Norfolk to be boring, monotonous flat, flat, flat lands with little to make me want to go back. But, each to their own. We all have our likes and dislikes.
(oh, and you can stick city life up your arse too )

We went one half term a few years and weren’t enamoured overly, did like Norwich but the seaside resorts and flatlands didn’t appeal massively. Glad you like it over there but not for me

Mrs Q's a Suffolk lass so hasn't too many nice things to say about Norfolk. We had a week in Cromer after a bowling tournament in Norwich a couple of years ago. Pleasant enough countryside & nice that nearly every restuarant does some variation on fresh crab. A very relaxing break & interesting wildlife.
Not a place to go if you want any sort of night life more exciting than Barnacle Bill, who's 87, discussing the state this year of his geraniums and his bunions.

Funny enough there isn’t a lot of compliments paid about Suffolk in the deepest depths of Norfolk

We’ve got the Quantocks and Mendips if you want hills and mountains , we’ve got Exmoor if you want to go a little bit rougher still, We’ve got the levels if you like flatlands, we’ve got the coast if you wanna go to the seaside and some lovely inland parklands areas. If you want wonders of the world we’ve got Cheddar Gorge, if you want history we’ve got Bath (yes, I know,) and if you want city life we’ve got Wells. We’ve got cider and cheese, and we’ve even got our nuclear power stations to keep us warm at night! And one of the best bits is we don’t get too full of tourists because they all pass through on their way to Devon and Cornwall. The only thing we don’t have is a football league team

North Staffs has a lot to offer as well location wise, plus there's oatcakes

Leek's on the up matey. Even with the rain this afternoon it looked resplendent with Union Jacks everywhere. Whoever the movers and shakers are in Leek need a huge pat on the back

In addition to your mentions there's Brancaster, Thornham, Old Hunstanton all fantastic beaches. I went there the first time because I saw Hunstanton Cliffs on a Norwich Union calendar. Add in Holt, Cleynext the sea, Holkam, Salthouse marches, fantastic bird watching.

Been Wells next the Sea last three years. Just about covered all decent activities....bird spotting on the marshes, kayaking at low tide around Wells Harbour, cycling, Sandringham and Holkham Hall and Oxburgh NT house and castle, RAF Duxford and Muckleburgh Military Museums. Loads of cheap antique outlets and decent hostelries. Fair old drive from South Devon so probably leave it for a while but definitely go again.

His crab sandwiches are pretty good as well. My one gripe about Sheringham is the fact that the chip shop on the high street down towards the front is hopeless. Hog roast on market day there is a must though.

I am in Wells and can go from the wooded Ebor Gorge on the Mendips to the mysterious Somerset levels around Glastonbury in a matter of minutes. I'm surrounded by history and legends from Alfred the Great to King Arthur and live in stunning countryside near the City of Wells which is often described as city living in the country. We don't as stated have a league football team but we do have a very good County Cricket team who have just won their first one day Trophy for years. I have friends in London who think that I'm effectively always on holiday as I live in Somerset.
