Football hooliganism, racism and sectarianism, in my opinion, never really went away. The England fans in Porto are just something that has been 'hidden away'.
It all needs stamping out once and for all. It is not an easy job but our esteemed politicians need to take the bull by the horns and end it.
Brexit' proves that maybe they are just not up to it.

How do you stop something like football hooliganism? For most people, it seems daft, but others actually enjoy it. How can you stop something that people enjoy?

Hooliganism needs decoupling from football. If some dickheads want to smash the shit out of each other then let them do it in a field where nobody else gets hurt or affected. I hate the fact that some people say “some football fans are dickheads”. I’d rather it be “some human beings are dickheads, and they sometimes act as such when they are attending a football match”. I think it’s got to be in you to want to act that way, football doesn’t turn people into knobs. I’ve never had any desire to get involved in any aggro. I’d walk the other way.
I have no idea how you stop it, nor why some morons get pleasure from behaving like animals.

Back in the 70s and 80s you’d mainly get thrown out or if you got nicked it was a £50 fine which was a lot then, especially if you’re on a YTS. More often than not it’s now a prison sentence but doesn’t seem to stop them.

Some fixtures will always attract a “stag night” type of support
Czech Republic in Prague on the Friday night is next on the list
As someone who follows/followed England abroad some games are just best avoided although it is possible to avoid them as the main squares are a magnet for them

Enjoyment, seems a difficult word to use - all the hooligans I've ever met were very angry men, lost and desperate for a sense of belonging and purpose in life - they may therefore derive enjoyment from accomplishing this as would the kudos in their social circles Never appealed me as I have an underlying core belief in it being wrong to harm others

It wouldn't be so bad if they just mangled and mutilated one another but it's the decent, law abiding bystanders who get the unprovoked violence Alcohol also plays a huge part in their violent disinhibition

Alot of people have travelled without tickets, you'll probably find they make up the numbers for those acting up.

Actually I saw a very pissed Chris Waddle having a row with an Asian lady in a Celtic top in a pub in New York. Kicked off big time until Waddle passed out 😁

Nanny pamyism that shirks away from identifying and prosecuting the individuals who carry out this nonsense. Anyone and everything blamed but those who do it! I generally hate seeing clubs fined et al for this, which is the defacto response. 99percent of fans don’t want this, the club don’t want it, no one wants it, but its a lazy cop.

Only got look at The Sentivale this week. Their lot are all up for Grimsby. Some have had suspended prison just for gesticulating.
The actual reporting says not involved in any violence blah blah blah, but Joe Bloggs can be seen sticking two fingers up and climbing onto a wall . Suspended.
I saw a guy in the paper who robbed Bet Fred at knifepoint only getting a suspended sentence.
It has never gone away, look back to December. And it never will.
We ourselves had a thread where plenty were clearly hoping for a ruck at Millwall.

There was also a documentary on TV which detailed how a trained group of ex and current security forces were sent over to batter some drunken english as a sort of propoganda news story. They were flown over by the russian govt. They nearly killed a little old drunk English fan.

Have been to 4 World Cups and 3 Euros and seen the trail of destruction England fans have left- in fact saw it first hand in Cagliari and Marseille amongst others. Whilst I sympathise with those caught up just there for the game, I don't when the bigger boys come and sort you out so to speak, whoever they are when they treat towns they way they do. Whilst it is a small contingent it isn't just one or two people. They're like the school bully who pick on the weaker kid then complain when they find out he has an older brother
